Has anyone tried to run Celestia after installing update 5? Have you had any problems with it?

@Valiant

Just tried it and it works for me. Mind you it's practically unusable without 3D hardware acceleration so it was hardly a thorough testing. Why, what problems are you encountering?

@mpiva

I had it working on my XE, a little bit slow but usable. Now after the update, it GR's and I have to kill it.

@Valiant

just fired it up on my pegasos2 system. it asked for an odd assign, 'Warp3D/Radeon200/Tools:' but after i assigned it to RAM:, everything was fine. ran the demo, and all worked as expected.

karl churchill might be a good focal point. did you save a stack trace?

Amazingly, I can now run Celestia seemingly perfectly under update 5. Previously, if I ran the demo, it would only make it about half way through and crash. Now it works flawlessly, no errors, no DSI's, I can go to different planets, pan and rotate etc. It is very fast on my Micro A1.

Celestia demo is running in the background as I'm typing this message in MUIOWB. Finished successfully. Typically (even before u5) it ran fine as long as I didn't resize the window.

@Valiant

I just fired up my old XE which I installed update 5 on today and Celestia works as well as it ever did. Takes far too long to start but when running it does not crash or anything. In fact when previously resizing the window caused problems it no longer does.

I have not tried it on my X1000 as there is no proper 3D support for the HD cards and I never bothered to install Wazp3D as it is supposed to be dog slow. Sort of defeats the idea of 3D accelleration !

But on the XE with update 5 freshly installed, no problems at all running Celestia.

@BillE

Have you considered the Radeon 9250 trick in your X1000?

Are we talking Celestia 1.6.1? Which version, Linux? @ http:// www.shatters.net/celestia/download.html

@WeiXing3D

1.6.1 is probably not ported. 1.6.0 for AmigaOS 4 is on OS4Depot. On an AmigaOneXE it should run better than a linux version, because there's no acceleration in Linux.

I found it & downloaded to give it a try, but it's not working. I'm getting the following message" Unable to open your tool 'Work:Celestia/celestia'

Any ideas?

@WeiXing3D

You do not have 3D acceleration available do you?

The solution is to start it from shell instead, here doesn't start aswell clicking normally on the icon but from shell it start without problem

@BillE

Thanks for the info, BillE and Scabit. I just now remembered I had swapped some necessary libraries out while doing some other non-related bug hunting, so I'm sure once I put those libraries back Celestia will work as well (or better) as it usually does.

After launching it from shell it works now. However, I dont know how the heck to use it :) RMB doesnt bring up any menus here are there options for the program?

Also, does anyone have a link to the objects that are missing? I'd really like to do that recreation of mars going across the sun someone mentioned on a thread before..

Ok, that'll be needing a BZ report.

What appears to have happened here is the application profile code taken an unforeseen edge case that's caused it to skip validating the name it gets back when it tries to determine who opened the driver.

Addons site

I have a celestia_controls.txt in the program directory, apparently it's NOT from the archive currently on OS4Depot. It isn't perfect, or rather not all keys mentioned do anything. For example A and Z. I have posted it in the comments section there.

Yes, probably in an earlier release there was a PDF file, but even if you have it, it's a little difficult to read when Celestia is running now isn't it?

I have a 9200 in my XE, but it uses an AGP connector so will not fit in the X1000's PCI or PCIe slots

Same here, it could really do with some menus and in-line help. There is a huge PDF file but when Celstia is running - when you would want to use it - everthing grinds to a halt so the PDF is not very helpful. It would be nice to know how to actually use it more.

You will be meaning the transit of Venus, Mars *never* can appear in front of the sun, unless viewed from Jupiter or beyond. I did the Venus transit animation using my own project Digital Universe. Which does have menus and in-line help BTW
