| I have a 4way buffered IDE adapter in my 1200. I just bought one of those 4gb CF cards for the 1200 off ebay. The card works great (OS4 is interesting) but I want to use my brand new hard drive and the ide buffer. (cdrom is next) So I need an adapter. to use both.
The 4 way IDE buffer has wide spaced pins while the CF card uses the close spaced pins. I'm sure one is like 44 pins and the other is 40?? I need a female 44 and a male 40. Thought I would ask here because someone has had this problem before and hopefully can point me to something that will work nicely.
While I'm asking, external CD Roms, what cable do you use?
My floppy has a DF0? doesn't recognize a floppy when it is installed. It worked fine the last time I used this machine (2 years ago). I checked all the connections. Maybe something is stuck?
Thanks John Six |

Looks neat. I like it.
The Yamaha looks funny as it looks exactly like a SCSI Yamaha drive. |

I need the 3.5 with female ends to 2.5 adapter with male ends and enough cable to go over the 4 way adapter so I can strap the CF card to the top of the hard drive.
I'll probably come out the back of my case, nice job on yours.
Thanks for the help

Well Amigakit is the place to go for that, as far as I know they will even make one up for you to the exact length required... _________________

I used to do that too (that why there's a narrow gap just to the side of the connector where the cable used to stick out)...
15 minutes work and you have a much neater solution and no cable dangling that always seemed to catch on somethin when you moved the thing...
You take your time with your Motorbike customisations and I'll take my time with miggie ones... _________________

well I managed to get everything I needed to use both my hard drive and the 4gb compact flash card adapter but, while making sure everything would work I shorted out my ide buffer so I'll have to get one of those next month, :(
on the plus side my commodore 64 is on the internet, I downloaded 2 files from my cloud, pretty neat

How on earth did you manage to short out your IDE board and are you sure you've not actually damaged the motherboard circuitry instead (I hope not)...
Be nice to see some screenshots of your C64 using the net, what software are you using for that !!!_________________

The pins stick out pretty far on the 4 way IDE buffer, looks like 2 of them touched the metal shielding and shorted, 1200 works fine (whew)
On the 64 I am using the retroswitch the software is in some of the 3.5 megs of ram that the unit has built in. There are videos on you tube for the retroswitch and the other commodore 64 ethernet solutions.
Presently I have too many projects. Toady I am formatting a new 4 gig hard drive for my 3000T as the original hard drive is dieing. I have numerous bad blocks. It has been a pain since the keyboard died but the keyboard adapter I bought from Ireland arrived today so I won't have to deal with any more 20 year old Amiga keyboards. The biggest PITA is going to be figuring out what files I need so my 060, picassoII and network cards work. As long as those 3 work I can probably figure out the rest. I have been putting off doing a clean install, now I have no choice. It will be nice to get rid of the 20 years of files no longer needed. (warp 040 install, petsof crap from their defective delphina and the browsers files)
I just hope I can find all my key files and where they belong hahaha

That's always a heart attack job when you spot something like that...
It's one of the reasons why the metal shielding is the first thing I rip out when modding an amiga...

Most stuff can be found somewhere on the net or from other members here, if you can't find something let me know as I tend to keep everything everything (even if I've never used it) and can't bear to wipe any of my ancient old HD's...

| isnt it safer to use something hot pluggable, like ide-sata converter (which i guess it is) if you want to use external devices. would also avoid ruining the case too much.. |

Only if your daft enough to plug or unplug something while your miggie is switched on...
Trouble with most Amiga IDE interfaces is that the drivers/ software don't support "hot pluggable" devices...
PS: I never consider it "ruining" the cases, more like making them better... _________________

right, i have usually hds hanging out of open cases all the time, not a good habit but have not managed to fry anything that way, even if lately in hurry i really disconected an ide hd from a running miggy.. lucky me.

yeah, right, forgot that. at least poseidon usb does. and im not sure but might be that aros68k does as well already.

i politely disagree. i have seen so much "improved" cases that im really found of my miggies surviving in original shape and form even if i had to install another fan rather than cut vent holes into the housing, as an example. but to each his own. |

scsi.device for the internal A1200 port does, I've hotplugged a harddrive there once just to prove it can be done. The Windows and Linux crowd went "whaaaat?". To top it off, it was the system drive
Well, technically I plugged the same one back after a requestor to put the volume back popped up. Last edited by olegil on 14-Sep-2012 at 10:57 PM.

I've done it too on more than one occasion (by accident) but I wouldn't recommend it...

True but try changing it for an entirely different volume/ device and you won't get very far...
