Hi Robert. What a nice video you've put up there! My congratulations. If all the footage shares that quality, then it is really excellent . Well done!

And I'm curious after Lyle's programs.

Great work Robert! The video looks good, and it is great to hear what Lyle is doing with Bars N Pipes and Softsynth, as well as his new program Score. I look forward to trying them all when they arrive on OS4depot.
It was especially interesting to hear the history of Blue Ribbon Bakery and the Microsoft buy-out of that company.
Now that Lyle is an OS4 developer, do you suppose BarsNPipes will become a regular part of the future OS4 releases?

Thanks too Lyle for making all your stuff free to the Amiga public!

Scott

just looked at lyles talk and i liked it, he seems a competent person and the score attempt of sequencer looks promising. although i didnt like the attitude not to want to back port his work to 68k, even though this must have likely been imposed on him as its exactly what the politics behind os4 have always been: not possibly contribute to others by any chance, even if its original amiga they claim be coming from. this consequent greedy behavior is prominent factor that puts me off when it comes to os4, but well, i can live with it looking at it from outside now.

nevertheless, lyle: cool work!

what makes me a little worried, trevor looks quite tired.. but maybe its just show stress and to little sleep;)

No, Lyle worked on Bars & Pipes himsef, nothing to do with Hyperion or anyone else. He is just mad keen on Music and Midi.

Matthew Leaman (who is mad on Classics) asked Lyle if was there was a possibility of porting his work to Classics. However, Lyle who picked up the development from a previous OS4 project, said unfortunately the dependencies were too much work.

Yes, I was tired from jetlag, too little sleep and too much of Goody's fine ale.

@TrevorDick

as i said im fine with his decision, it has only reminded me about a pattern i frequently came earlier across when it comes to os4. especially that he dismissed it so snappy with just no comment and moved on. it was something impatient and harsh in this short answer, after his joyous and eloquent presentation. especially that steven has just encouraged cooperation in the clarification thread. i just mad me wonder again about the seriousness and accordance between statements and reality in this context.

dude, you weren't there. the chap asking the question wanted to know if he could run score and the new bars&pipes under UAE on his PC laptop. he didn't understand you couldn't run an OS4 program there. the question had nothing to do with 'backporting' to OS3.

lyle is a heck of a guy and doesn't deserve crap like this. he wasn't being impatient or harsh, he was trying to get the guy to understand it just wasn't possible because he asked the question more than once. matthew's question wasn't the one you saw on the video.

@wawa

Perhaps I did not understand the question properly. I was on camera and a bit nervous at the time.

I _THOUGHT_ he asked if I would port SoftSyn back to the classic architecture. That's not likely as I don't own or use them anymore. I have nothing against them, I used to own many. It's just not on my desktop right now.
While SoftSyn LOOKS simple, there's a lot of complexity in the SoundFont2 specification to keep me busy. Maybe that's why TiMidity has been a public group effort for many years. I'm just one guy.

Had he asked specifically about Bars&Pipes, I would have directed him to Alfred Faust's home page. Alfred has maintained versions for Classics, MorphOS, and OS4 for many years now. Due to health issues all have been idle for about six years. I approached Alfred and asked for the OS4 port. It is reasonable to believe that he might do the same with the other BnP versions if asked for them. Or he might not. It's purely up to Alfred.

It also bears mention here that the fork to three separate apps was done by Alfred, long before I began this project.

Finally, (since I was asked a few times off-list) the only reason that BarsnPipes was not released at AmiWest is that I found a bug that was big enough to worry me. As soon as the CAMD_OUT tool supports SysEx without crashing, the current project will be submitted to the Depot for distribution.
There are sure to be more bugs to hunt down later, but I wanted to get this "out there" for public use.

Thanks to all for the wordsw of support. It's nice to know that my projects might be interesting to a wider audience.

I was very impressed with Lyle's video. He seems to be a good person, a very good presenter and a great asset to the Amiga community. When I get an Amiga I plan on using both Bars and Pipes and Score.

Lyle gave a lot of good credit out to others too, which I thought was very nice.

I was so impressed I donated to his page.

Keep them coming will slow down for a bit. After I finished the edit on Eldee Stephen's presentation (to be uploaded tonight or tomorrow), the external hard drive that I use for storage crashed (to be precise, it shows the directory as being empty). Until I can recover that drive or buy a new one, video uploading will be delayed.

Thanks for taking the time to post this video. It is full of great news.

@LyleHaze

You have put in a LOT of work, and it shows. Your new programs look very cool. The revival of B&P is very exciting to see.

I just fed your kitty.
