I am glad that he did not waited when realized the 8 bit versions. That was a lifetime experience for me. Now I am old for such games, so for me doesn't matter how cool could it be today.

@Lazi

Yep, me too (though I never played the 8-bit versions). A Large chunk of my teens was spent playing Frontier: Elite 2, which was almost perfect for its time.

@Daedalus

Almost perfect. (no need to put more after that).

Realistic gameplay (space is truly awesome and mindboggingly dull at the same time) AND physics (let's face it, Aristoteles is famous, but not for being right about physics).

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

I'm pretty sure I'll have to build a whole new machine to get a good experience from Elite: Dangerous

I don't view Elite Dangerous as a reason to upgrade so I was simply asking whether you thought the game would be optimised to the point where it would work on Core2Duo machines? I donated towards Kickstarter and if I can't play it I'll be gutted but I haven't finished Wing Commander AGA yet so if need be I'll go back to playing that to get my Space Sim fix!

@BigD

Time will tell I guess. Unless they actually check explicitly for 4 cores it'll probably run. It just comes down to how much optimising vs number crunching is going on regarding playability...

@Daedalus

This seems to sum up the situation,

Dangerous Philosophy: Quad Core CPU Requirement Explained

It'll probably run on dual core CPU it's just they don't want to promise something they can't deliver on.

I am really looking forward to this. It might be the first online multiplayer game I buy. Luckily I have the hardware required.

ps. Is a six core processor called hexa core?

I'd planned on having my old system updated by now, but lagging behind. My old system is running a 2.3mhz core2duo and doing fine on the beta trainer. I do have a decent radeon based HD7750 video card though. Looks and plays great at 1900x1600 resolution. We'll see how it does when the full beta is released.

This looks awesome! Will have to replace my 10 year old PC for this but I must have it.
