Hi,

Just to let you know that the people have decided!

Everyone who registered has come up with suggestions about price, ranging from £70 to £520 so we're going somewhere in the middle to make everyone happy, I hope. Only 50 will be made, first come first serve as usual.

The X500 Plus will be priced at £259 (GBP) + packaging and postage. I am also asking a company to make us a plain, brown, double wall cardboard box for it. Just for delivery, nothing fancy.

------------------------------------------- What is included ------------------------------------

The case will be available in black or white with black or white USB keyboard

rubber feet
on/off switch
LEDs
all the screws, nuts, washers & spacers
custom made steel DVD and 3.5" USB card reader brackets
expansion card cover
keyboard holders
one 40mm silent fan
slim SATA DVD-RW drive with SATA cable
silicone fan mounts on the right side (in case you want to add extra fans)
3.5" USB card reader (52in1)
powder coated aluminium base and rear (inside and out) in black or white with a matt finish
custom made LED window
Fully assembled.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once I get all the payments I'll ask the factories to buy the materials and machine the plastic, the aluminium and the steel. They'll want to be paid in advance.

I'll be assembling the cases myself, one by one, it takes time so please be patient.

As you'll be the first ones to get an X500 Plus please let me know your choices:

1) X500 Plus colour (white or black)
2) Colour combination of the LEDs (white, blue, red, green or amber, they are interchangeable)
3) Your full home address (for the delivery)
4) Your Paypal email address
5) Would you like two free ACube's "A" keys adhesives?
6) Please confirm keyboard layout preference (U.K. layout is second best option if first is not available)

Contact:

amigarulez@hotmail.com

Registered people should have received an email from me already. If you have not received it please contact me, I might have missed someone so sorry in advance about it...

Delivery: 2-4 weeks.

PS: This project has sucked a lot of energy, free time and money, my entire classic, NG Amiga and Commodore collection, plus my car (twice!) and a few other items which ended up on ebay during seven years. You probably already know but I'll be making these at a loss for a while but I love it and I hope you're going to love it too. Add sad music here.

Thank you to everyone who’s been supporting this project, you know who you are.

@damocles

Only $75 more than the mass produced C64 rehash then.

@damocles

£259 = $416 or 318 Euros

Some comparisons:

Original Harry Potter's hat = £23 GBP

Original Harry Potter's magic wand = £35 GBP

Both items are produced in China in their millions.

Coolermaster Cosmos 2 Case = £292
made in China in hundreds and hundreds of thousands.

X500 Plus case made in Britain by hand, 50 pieces = £259 per case
And you think it's scandalous? Really?
Were you interested in buying it?

@damocles

The price is pretty fair. It's a low volume product and seems to be done pretty well. Ask your local carpenter or other craftsman what he charges per hour.

My only issue with that project is that I don't like keyboard cases and have no use for it. But I am sure those who like keyboard cases get quite some bang for the buck here.

Thanks.

It includes almost everything you'd expect, a slim DVD-RW drive, a card reader, an expansion slot for a low profile card...I should have gone for £520 (GBP) as suggested by some...

If I think that the average was almost £300...bah!

@TheDaddy

Seems a fair price for what you get. Shame I have no money, or for the next 18 years at least with my child lol, otherwise I would have had one. I have watched this project bloom over the last however long I have been on here. Great work getting it out of the door

Great work! No option for leaving out the DVD player and card reader?

I still don't understand this but it sounds like a deal breaker for me. Even for asking that question!

Are you making this with a PC keyboard? You are sending this to factories for manufacture; Why not replace the entire Windoze Keys with "A" keys or at least BoingBall Keys??

If the adhesives are free, then why not just include them?! But even better, just make the device with replacement Windoze Keys with genuine "A" keys or BoingBall Keys.

If making genuine keys makes X500 Plus cost go up, I still think it is worth it.

I know The Amiga is now being maintained by small companies and has a small user base compared to many years ago, but it is a unique computer, not PC Clone and I cringe whenever a unique computer has to share a keyboard with Windows. Even AROS should have AmigaOne Keyboard.

main cost point on that c64 replica was custom built original layout cherry (?) keyboard, if we left out the professionally produced injection molded shell. in all respect to daddys work, which demands certainly a lot of funds and dedication, there is quite a difference between those items.

now if someone would reproduce amiga layouted keyboards this would perhaps be interesting. seems too complicated though.

I suppose you are right. It's incredibly unfair to compare Loriano's work with a piece of unoriginal design hampered by a severely limited keyboard layout and no expansion slot.

@In_Correct

The key caps are fairly small so it maybe possible to have custom copies made fairly cheaply by a 3D printing service.

Yes, it's a generic USB, chiclet keyboard.

No. You can buy it almost anywhere.

Because it costs money which then the customer has to pay.

Because some people want to use it with Windows keys running Windows or make their own for AROS/MOS/Linux. Think of the X500 Plus as a generic case for all computing flavours. I haven't tested MOS but one person told me that the Efika should fit. Besides giving them away for free? I have only got a limited amount.

If people are prepared to pay more then I'll investigate that. Some are already going around shouting that is too expensive...

That is why I include the adhesives, but only if people want them. A few have requested NOT to include them as they want to run Linux/Windows.

Thanks.

The "professionally produced injection molded shell" is a reproduction and from the reports not even that exact (C64x being thicker/higher than the original). Anyone can pay a draughtsman to make the CAD for them based on an old design.

This is hand made stuff, think of it as a piece of handcrafted work and NOT as a mass produced item.

Yes the differences are the ones mentioned above plus the following:

X500 Plus

Expansion slot = Yes
Support for mini-itx boards = Yes
Support for flex-atx boards = Yes
Can use powerful graphics cards = Yes
1 to 3 40mm silent fans = Yes
Full size, standard keyboard = Yes

C64x

Expansion slot = No
Support for mini-itx boards = Yes
Support for flex-atx boards = No
Able to run on onboard graphics only
1x40mm fan
Full size, standard keyboard = No

Congratulations on completing and ignore the tight ass doubters, simple responses are as follows.

Cool I want one or cool but cannot afford it.

Anyone considering to try to build MosMini inside this case?

(also I can not afford it for now, even though it's coolness factor)

Don't take this the wrong way, but saying that "I'm only going to produce X copies and they are going to cost Y GBP because I'm only going to produce X copies" (classic Catch-22) is the main problem in the Amiga market today, really. The thing is that since setup times are so costly, at some point you can more or less produce twice the number of units for the same total amount. The challenge is finding that sweetspot and a large enough market to reach it, which will never happend if you start by setting a fixed limit on the number of units you are going to produce...

A beautiful thing is taking the wrong turn because of strong personalities and super easy flammability of the involved parties.

NOW we can say that this is really an "Amiga" thing.
