AmigaAMP 3.7 not playing .m4a files

Been using AmigaAMP 3.x since last year. I have a mix of .MP3 and .m4a files. Both played fine on past version.

Just updated to 3.7 today and now .m4a no longer play.

The status bar of AmigaAMP moves across the screen quicker counting seconds but not music plays and it just moves to next music file.

Once in a while you will hear a quick blurb sound before it moves to next track.

So as an example, a 4 minutes .m4a the status bar moves across in maybe 10 seconds, it then dead-ends at the far right of AmigaAMP player screen, then it jumps to next song.

Bummer....

@amigasociety

He changed the internal AAC decoding engine to the faad.library. That probably has something to do with it.

Guess I'll wait with that update.

@amigasociety

It says on the thread at Amigans that it now uses faad.library instead of the built in AAC decoder.

Do you have faad.library installed?

@Rob

Yes, I did install it and today have in my System:Libs drawer a folder named faad_library.

Inside that folder is the contents of the download.

I take it all these files should be in this main drawer, correct?

Or were these files in the drawer supposed to be moved out and other places?

Maybe I do not have it installed proper with files in the correct place, but the read-me did not tell me to place these files anyplace else and I just had moved the faad_library into my System>>Libs folder back when I had downloaded that library.

So unless I do not have files in the right places, I did install it to the best of my knowledge long ago.

@amigasociety

faad.library has to be in LIBS:

@Spectre660

Yes, that is where I put the whole drawer named faad_library into, my System>>Libs drawer.

Correct?

Or do I supposed to remove the contents from that drawer and move them elsewhere. Example.... the faad_library drawer has other files and folders in it such as Binaries, lib, readme, Include, Libs, Sources.... Was I supposed to do something with those?

I am thinking an app needing faad_library would be looking for that directory in the Libs folder where I have it now and inside that drawer is the contents apps would use, correct.

Just wanted to make sure..

So unless I have this installed incorrectly, I do have that already installed and appears not to be the reason my AmigaAmp 3.7 does not play .m4a, or maybe not 100% the only reason.

@amigasociety

You need to put the file "faad.library" found in the "binaries" drawer directly into LIBS. You don't need any of the other files to be present.

@amigasociety

No.

just the Faad.library file and not in its own drawer.
So

LIBS:
faad.library

Ah yes... before I read your message I opened each folder and saw that file. Made a duplicate of it, moved into Libs drawer, reboot X1000, and now .m4a plays.

Wish the read-me would be more helpful for those less familiar with Amiga OS and spell out where stuff should go.

Now I know.

Thanks for the help!

Most likely not. The contents of the Libs drawer should probably go in libs: the other files will depend on what they are and how you use it.

@amigasociety

Typically any correctly installed drawers in LIBS: are sublibraries, by which I mean that an application is not likely to access them, but a library in LIBS: might. In a basic 4.1 installation this is already quite a few actually.

Installing libraries are common knowledge so people rarely write it in readmes.

But for your information in the future:
*.library -> LIBS:
*.device -> DEVS:
*.handler -> L:
*.rx -> REXX: (if it is a global ARexx script and not very specific to some app)
Sub directories in these are never scanned automatically.

Especially for libraries they can also be put into the PROGDIR:libs/ of some application. That will take priority over anything in LIBS:. PROGDIR: being the directory of any program executable.
