Hi All,

I have now completed my initial installation of AmigaOS4.1 final Edition on my X1000 - the full installation with plenty of photos and screenshots is covered in my blog post here:

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2015/01/amigaos41-final-edition-part-2.html

I hope you enjoy it!

An OS installation should be seamless and without drama. We should hardly be drawing attention to the tedious side of setting up the initial installation. Just say it was easy/medium/hard and leave it at that.

Erm where does this 4gb limit on a FAT partition come from?

Quote:

The maximum disk size is approximately 8 terabytes when you take into account the following variables: The maximum possible number of clusters on a FAT32 volume is 268,435,445, and there is a maximum of 32 KB per cluster, along with the space required for the file allocation table (FAT).

You may be confusing it with the maximum *FILE* size.

[edit]
Forgot to add that this blog makes an excellent guide to installing, especially as it deals a couple of minor issues that might trip up less experienced users

I totally agree. If we all stick our fingers in our ears, shut our eyes and go "lalalala", the problem might go away.

Epsilon, good work as always. I see how this can help a novice and not-so-novice user alike avoid some pitfalls and generally know what to expect.

So you are saying OS 4.1 Final is tedious to set up then are you? Not realy sure I see your point! This installation guide should be the sort of thing included in the box. By all means review the product but a step by step commentary on installing the software?! How boring have we all become if we get excited by that!

No, he's just bullshitting. He hasn't even tried installing the Final.

@broadblues

The partition in this case I referenced was FAT16 (abbreviated usually to FAT). If it was FAT32 I was referring to then you would be correct in your feedback. For FAT16 4GB partitions are the limit. Perhaps I should have made that clearer by saying FAT16 explicitly.

For formatting under Windows XP, the limit is 4GB, for MS-DOS it is 2GB. Microsoft technical articles on the subject for reference:

4GB partition limit under XP:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310561

2GB partition limit under MSDOS:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/118335

@BigD

I thought it would be helpful for people to see what to expect when installing Final Edition - the blog article includes some tips on how to disable bootsound and cf ide support also. It also shows off some of the features in Final Edition once installed.

I appreciate that not everyone needs help installing it, but the manual (pamphlet) included in Final Edition says little about the installation process, so I thought this step by step guide would be useful for people unfamiliar with AmigaOS4.x installations.

@others

Thank you for your kind feedback - I enjoy writing this blog a lot!

Regards,
Epsilon

Thanks for clarifying. If you fulfilling a shortcoming in the OS4.1 Final manual then thanks for your efforts

Hi All,

I have added another blog entry today regarding how to set MPlayer-GUI as the default player for video files in AmigaOS4.1 (when double clicking on video file icons in Workbench).

Link is here:

Been playing around with the new upgraded Shell in AmigaOS4.1 Final Edition on the X1000 - thought I would share some of the new things I found with it.

Hi All,

Last night I attended the Adelaide Amiga Meeting at Clarence Park community Centre. It was a great night with plenty of Amigas and Amigans keen to discuss all things Amiga!

I have written a blog post covering the event, with plenty of pictures here:

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2015/01/adelaide-amiga-meeting-jan-2015.html

I hope you enjoy it!
