@thread

We had Roberto J. Dohner & Trevor in the Sunday chat tonight & cleared the air on a number of things. Most important to me was Roberto has no desire to change what we have now, but to help port linux apps to OS4. I for one will welcome his effort in that regard.

That's funny , that's what Roberto said in the thread earlier ...

Imagine the coincidence ...

He gets to sell Amiga computers to general public ...
God knows few AmigaOS 4 users will buy one of these ...
He will not hurt you in any way , even agrees to help you , "whenever possible"

Those who say Amiga brand isn't worth anything these days don't
have to bother with it and Roberto takes all the risk for that ...
It is a win-win situation as I see it.Maybe I'm blind or something ...

Only looser would be Amiga Inc. and god knows that they didn't do much
for Amiga these 20 years have they ?

Now regarding the rest of the community , they can't loose from this too ...
Amiga Inc. already made sure to take every single legal right and they don't
give it to anyone.What is left to loose ?

Way I see it , it can only get better for the community , not worse.

@blizz1220

you are right and you are wrong. Your view is rational but parts of the community are not otherwise formulations like "opensource mafia" or "the only and true successor..." or dropping the platform at all if not a certain camp succeeds would not be possible. In a ideal (and commercial) world we would talk to each other and cooperate in best interest of all but that is not the case. So Hyperion wants to use "Amiga" for their products alone for sure, they have no interest to let the brand used by others. Otherwise they would not have prevented CUSA to install AROS (what they planned back in 2010). If not Hyperion can use the brand noone can.

But if you get proper licence from Amiga.Inc, then you can count with my voice on this forum.
...
Edit: In some cases, Settlement Agreement grands Hyperion responsibility to legally defend "Licenced Marks" (eg. Boing Ball), be careful, you may end in court with them. (See 13. Intellectual Property Enforcement)

Isn't "OS4" Hyperions trade mark?

@Dandy

No , I think , and it was a while , that actual trademark is AmigaOS4 or AmigaOS 4 ...

In reality , Hyperion gets most of it's rights from Amiga Inc. , rights that it
didn't get it steals when needed ...

They didn't really do much in the last 2 years , A-Eon paid for most of the
Amiga Os 4 development , and you paid a lot of it yourselves ...

When they start selling old free Amiga games you now with what kind of
a company you're dealing with.Money from the sales of Amiga OS 4 still
goes to Hyperion , but to be fair here , that's not such a big sum ...

Hyperion Entertainment was making money from porting games to PPC
Macintosh and once Apple went x86 there was no market and therefore
no money ...

btw has anyone tested this os4 linux or amiga open linux or however it is called to confirm if it is any good?

I don't have no Linux Pc and I doubt his Amiga Open Linux would run on any of my Amigas (A500, A1200, A4000PPC, AmigaForever).

How can he call it "OS4" - I thought "OS4" is Hyperions trademark?
(If they sue him and win they could put this money into the development of "da real thing")

And what does "open" mean in this regard?
I always thought Linux was OPEN source from the beginning...

You thought wrong. OS4 is to generic in the first place(A quick google search of OS4 brings up Linux OS4 distro, BB OS4, ios4 and Aos4). even AOS4, AmigaOS, AmigaOS4 isn't owned by Hyperion. It's licensed.

Yes because lawsuits always lead to more development.

If you read my posting more carefully, you will possibly notice that I wrote they could use the money for the development - not the lawsuit.

The Lawsuit could be one method to get money.

@Dandy

the problem with lawsuits is that you never know who wins (except the attorneys)
