We had Roberto J. Dohner & Trevor in the Sunday chat tonight & cleared the air on a number of things. Most important to me was Roberto has no desire to change what we have now, but to help port linux apps to OS4. I for one will welcome his effort in that regard.

+1, thanks to Robert & Trevor for checking in

@sundown

did you capture a log of the IRC chat, per chance? i'd be very curious to see what was said.

Can you smell the irony of our chat being on the old Amiga Inc. server? Heh.

@Dandy

I read your comment and I got that you were assuming they could make money from ip violations. However the chances are slim to none that they would win.

Or since they don't own it they could end up even further in debt.

Imagine Amiga Inc. not protecting their trademarks.
Imagine Apple not protecting theirs, not likely.

That he keep using the amiga name is just pushing it.

@terminills

Well this is about blurring the lines between what is Amiga and what is not, if AROS is based on Amiga, and if Amiga becomes a Linux distribution, then AROS is nothing more than a Linux distribution, nothing special just a Linux desktop whit different skin.

If you think Linux better to be based on, then way are everyone so interested in Amiga name?

Now, the AmigaOS 4.1, is a PowerPC based system, what we plan to do for those users is make our desktop cases in such a way, and work with PowerPC developers so that the [b]x86 boards can be swapped out with PowerPC[/b) boards so users can use both systems whenever they wish.

Not quite sure where you get that. Aros is a reimplmentation of the AmigaOS 3.1 API. So if AmigaOS say i dunno version 4.0 was linux based it would not affect Aros.

I noticed you said the name and not the OS. That right there should answer your question.

@terminills

more than else i cannot understand how they still tihnk AROS is linux based: maybe because first builds up to 2004 were linux hosted only?

After that AROS became autonomous and has its own kernel rewritten from scratch following 3.1 API documentations, but this still don't sink in huh?

@saimon69

Amiga Open Linux, yes 3.1 is a Linux kernel from 24 October 2011.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_kernel

You don't need the Amiga name, but it hard to explain what AROS or MorphOS is whit out it.

i think morphos has chosen to stand by itself, they dont need to convince themselves with any supposedly official linkage. people take it for what it is, not what it claims to be or where it claims to come from, because those interested either know anyway or do not care.

same with aros i guess. for me its enough to use it on amiga to run amiga software, others may not even need that. i dont need any "amiga" in its name.

in fact, the situation with os4 may be more complicated to explain to general public, as we see on currently discussed example.

Yeah we all know your real agenda is to convince people about the shortcomings of AOS

GET A LIFE!! and start promoting the stuff you think is better!

Otherwise just shut the heck up.

If you can't say anything nice, don't say nothing at all...

What does the shortcomings of AOS have to do with scavengers? Unless you're implying something about AOS?

my real agenda is to convince people that scavengers are necessary to have, otherwise we would have rotting corpses all over the planet.
