I am now working on the transition from "Wanderer" to "Megellan" as Desktop. Thanx to the help our 68k genius PeterK and his icon library Magellan now perfectly works on AROS 68k. I hope to finish next version in the next two weeks.

Below screenshot showing Button bar and the two different views of Magellan (Icon/Text)

@OlafS25

thanks olaf, has kas1e supplied a public version or another beta, im not following it close since they delete any post i make on amigas.net immediately.

i have notified toni about peter k issues in case it could cause further incompatibilities. aros should be transparently compatible on amiga.

@wawa

no, normally Aros 68k loads the Aros icon library (even if Peters icon library is copyied in libs). The newer libraries of Peter did not work. Peter has now managed to solve the problem and his newest version can be loaded using loadmodule (description and download on "icons" on amigacoding)

@wawa

no new version. GCC has still some problems on 68k so using SASC version is recommended and full working.

Yes AROS "should be" compatible.

But it isn't.

Sometimes the AROS devs change the elements in OS structures to a different, incompatible size.

This is why PeterK's icon.library never worked until now. It was in no way PeterK's fault that the code wasn't working. Luckily for us PeterK had the patience to find the bug in AROS and program around it. He now has 2 versions of the code: 1 for AmigaOS and a different one for AROS.

Its a pretty safe assumption that there are another 10 or 20 places where the AROS structures are intentionally incompatible. Have fun tracking those down.

Yes what do you want to say?

Dig a little everywhere, take any topic and start to compare the implementations and parameters. You will find differences on all areas. Welcome to the world of amiga. It is not only AROS.

yes, i know, it works even pretty well. the problem is first start when processing the fonts, it takes ages. but owb is a huge executable, and aros slow loading programs is here extremely annoying. i hope the problem will be found and fixed soon. toni doesnt want to go into it but jason will have some time after the end of the month, feel free to annoy him too;)

therefore it is important to test and insist on it as amiga user. your feedback is welcome.

if a change has proven negative impact on compatibility it will likely be reconsidered and reversed of improved upon. aros devs have an almost religious relation to 3.1 compatibility and always consider it as first rang factor especially on 68k where its not only api but also binary compatibility. however they cant test all, and there is limited numbers of those who do, so if you want more and faster improvements join in.

where did i wrote its peter's fault? instead to have different versions of library the problem should have been reported to aros devs, which i did.

well i have fun, but i have not so much skill. instead making stupid remarks help up or if you are not interested and only want to prove your point let it be. whatever..

Technical explanation of the AROS bug (and related discussion) is here:
http://www.amigacoding.de/index.php?topic=360.0

I proposed an idea that would find all similar bugs all at once. But I don't have time to code it. However surely someone must have already coded a StructureCompare proggy that could be used for this purpose. It would then just be a matter of finding the right proggy and using it.

@OlafS25

I have added a big number of hotkeys similar to f.e. Icaros

Next is "file types" including context menues (when in icon mode)

Example here is context menu of lha archive

cli lha. Also possible to start a WB program, AREXX and predefined Magellan commands. Magellan is very flexible. You can define a file type, define actions there by doubleclick, dragndrop and so on and define context menues. "Filetype" can be almost everything, not only JPG or similar but also "directory", "DF0:" and so on. And for everything you can define a specific context menu.

what concerns owb, the problem is you cant input into the forms, only del key works. so it isnt usable for trolling. also, you are aware that you can seave the working config, to save the users configuration troubles, im sure.

@wawa

I have changed the configuration already. Input is not possible (how you said). Hopefully we can "motivate" Jason to work on it. Would be a reason to use AROS 68k.

I have integrated LHA, ZIP, TAR and LZX support and directories. Next is animation and pictures.

Below is a screenshot of context-menu for directories. Magellan is really flexible.

@OlafS25

might be actually cool of aros owb was a little fixed and synchronized with webkit as fab did. i would be fine without the whole candy as long as it stays open and a contribution, which seems not to be possible with odyssey.
