@amigang

A pure guess from the name.... a combination of "Aros" and "unix"? e.g. Anubis II?

(If it is.. well.. I won't hold my breath)

@amigang

I have it on good authority that the ARIX foundation is a NSA front to spying on developing countries

Arix is, in fact, another codename of the Anubis project.

But it's also the acronym that someone was using talking about a project involving Aros and XAmiga weld together. Can't recall who and where.

The latter is very interesting to me (especially given I worked myself on the aborted project that became Xamiga later thanks fro Fractallyte)

That looks like a good candidate for the FAQ. Thanks.

@damocles

Am I wrong? That's just something that I thought to remember from some time ago when I followed the Anubis project

Questions should be answered in 30 days when the corporate web site launches and we get active with our FB/TW accounts. We only have one chance to do this properly and as such, we intend to do just that.

I hope this new endeavour will succeed better than late CommodoreUSA. Good luck!

Annubis is ridiculous. It's just a Linux distro with a desktop manager and window dressings made up to look like an Amiga. There isn't even an Amiga or Amiga-like API underneath. Just Linux with a modified desktop and icons.....we've seen enough Linux distros and another one just muddies the waters. It's very similar to this distro that aims at deceiving people too:

http://www.os4online.com/

I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but I call it like I see it and if I wanted a Linux distro, I wouldn't be looking for it here or be a member of an Amiga forum.

neither was anubis meant as amiga look alike linux distro (in this case it would not be a problem to skin something along the lines of commodoreos) nor is it arix as far as i know. funny enough none complains when various linux distributions appear for machines meant originally for os4. as far as i know arix is going to be binary compatible to aros v1 x86, the same aros generation that runs also amiga software on genuine amigas, is this enough amiga api for you?

AROS 68k is not good example - not enough stable, not enough mature. I would expect more from Arix.

Actually that would be a welcome development. Thanks for setting me straight. I'm just overly critical and overly cynical after the years of broken promises and scams inflicted on Amiga users.

not enough stable? What do you mean by that?

Besides "Aros 68k" Team are more or less 4 persons (that I am aware of) if you count me and Wawa in. If more people would help to improve it, test features and help to find errors/limitations it would develop faster. Instead most members in the 68k community stay where they are (it is not personal against you just general speaking). Of course if you compare Aros 68k (even my distribution) to a heavily patched environment like Amikit it is certainly not on the same level. And Wawa certainly rightful moans about missing components on real hardware. Finally there is the problem of missing developers. Hopefully some 68k developers will understand to see the potential and start becoming involved.

the 68k stability issues are in many cases limited to this particular platform, they dont even show as much under uae which is more tolerant, therefore the genuine amiga is a demanding target for good and for bad. if you want to test aros stability then check out for instance v1 aros windows hosted or so.

I use WinUAE to test AROS 68k.

Sure, it is still young project, I´m certain it will be better in future.

Please do not jump to conclusions and let us open our web site first prior to judging our product or our intent.

On a side note, I will point out to you that back during C=USA days, I never bothered to download and install CommodoreOS because I already had CentOS and Fedora installed on my primary desktops and didn't need a YALD. Today, I still hold that opinion.

As I said earlier, I'm just overly critical and overly cynical after the years of broken promises and scams inflicted on Amiga users. I look forward to something that isn't YALD and hope that your site does offer something unique but it's tough not to be skeptical keeping in mind all the scams and fiascos of the Amiga's past.

This time it is different. At least a good addition to the community.
