@AmigaBlitter

Nope, but at least AROS has shown SMP is possible on Amiga.
I'd say, give it two more weeks

Power 9 will be about 20 times more faster than a G5 Quad for single core

I doubt your numbers are real. As far as we know, there are no such single core benchmarks of Power9.

if will born an Os4 for this cpu will be not usable becaue too much fast :P

I´m sure we would find easily use for such speed.

yes i know ... but probably will be more there is not dnet for power8 too.
But for what i see on linux kernel developer ml the power9 have much more accelerators and features compared the power8

@AmigaBlitter

we dont have smp on amigaos ... but 256 GB/s on power 9 on 8 core (of much threads?) ... 7 TB/s data move
it is wow speed

I´m more interested in general prurpose performance (eg. speed in games and emulators). Dnetc is nice for simple benchmarking, but one must know what to compare (scalar vs hybrid results) and what is benchmarked (it is really simple integer application with some cache dependence).

20 times faster than 970MP 2.5 GHz in single core/thread task hard to believe statement, when Intel struggles to get even 1/3 of that number with its most powerful CPUs.

only? ...for me the important is it will be for sure more faster of x5000.
single thread in ram 2gb/s/2 vs 256 Gb/s/8
4x pcie vs 16x pcie

Do they? Oh was that 10 years ago? I'm sure Intel has the 970MP beat several times over now.

@AmigaBlitter

the Power 9 looks like a great cpu, and price difference between 1 and 2 cpu's is 400$, it looks like this cpu is not extremely higher priced then the cpu in the X5000.

Atx-size motherboards from 3th party's would be great.

Only where are the benchmarks for the P9, or systems haven't sold yet ?

power9 are sold in server farms and to big data factory (google) usually this type of customers dont made benchmarking or play games this is why there are no benchmarks around like for power8 , power7,6,5 ... only from g5 and down classes you can found benchmarks because home and personal computers machines.

*ahem*
http://www.anandtech.com/show/9567/the-power-8-review-challenging-the-intel-xeon-

Those are POWER8 benchmarks, POWER9 is still quite an IPC jump above that. Phoronix will probably have POWER9 benchmarks when they get their hands on a TALOS II board.

@Hypex

Single core performance rises only slowly since 2005.

970MP 2500 MHz: cca 10 SpecInt2006
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2400 MHz: 18 SpecInt2006 (computer of my brother in 2007)
Core i5-2500K 3300 MHz: 40 SpecInt2006 (computer of my brother in 2011)
Core i7-5960X 4500 MHz: 82 SpecInt2006 (best performant i7 CPU right now on Spec.org website)

1/3 of "20 times faster" -> 6.66666666 times faster

Good observation.

"Six, point, six six, the number of the beast..."

Nah, it just doesn't roll right, does it?

On a serious note, I am enjoying this discussion in relation to emulation.
A Power9 cpu running multiple virtualized G4 or G5 sessions could give us one hell of a experience using NG operating systems.

Fixed that for you, cos using something even more powerhungry then a G5 to run a bunch of semi independent MorphOSes sure sound like something I wouldn't wish onto Bunny Hormons

That "OpenSource" Laptop to replace the bulky PB and iBooks? Sure.
A sensible priced cutdown X5000 (aka Tabor with less braindamaged CPU)? One can dream.....

But otherwise PPC is as dead as 68k, 6502, MIPS,Sparc etc and one shouldn't waste resources on it.

That would be several times yes.

SPARC is still around. As is MIPS. 6502 is still alive in the form of the WDC 65c02.

Do you mean not alive in the sense it's not alive on the desktop because it isn't x86? Well yes that would be true. But they are not dead bcause they are found in other devices than the everyday PC.

Ha!
Yeah, I'd advocate that too (and have).
And we'll push the PPC laptop project as far as possible.

Power9 might be taking it too far, as I'm not 100% sure I'd want to spend that much money myself (but it is cool hardware).
