Was here years ago, lost track, got too busy, lost my Ami's to theft and fire and just kind of drifted off, though I've looked in from time to time. So, I have finally purchased a new generation sam-based Amiga,and waiting for it to be delivered. Believe me, I'm going to bug the crap out of all of you with questions (like: "Will the Amikit Ubuntu Remix disk work on sam-based systems?") Before I am back in my stride again. Great to see you all again, looking forward to chatting you all up, and great to be back in the community.

P.S. I was serious about the above question.

@Marky_D_Sahdd

Welcome back. I remember seeing your name around the forums in the past.

Which sam model did you get? Hope you enjoy it.

The Ubuntu Remix disk is for X1000. There are a few distros for Sam440 but I think the Sam460 isn't so well supported when it comes to Linux.

@Rob

Damn! Got the 460. Relec Red One. Yes, I will like it. Most of my at-home life lately has been helping my wife deal with Windows 8. I'm looking forward to returning to an OS that's logical, sleek, and works with you.

@Marky_D_Sahdd

Hello and welcome
There're some distroso for the SAMs, for your specific model you can have a look on Acube's site, on the bottom of this page:
Debian and Ubuntu

or this thread:
Linux on SAM

Also on Hyperion's forum you may find other info... don't ask me if/how they work 'cause i don't have a 460
You may try to ask Geri and another guy whose name escapes me at the moment, they're the guys actually doing the work for Linux on AmigaOnes.

Welcome back! There are tons of helpful members here and many of them use SAM systems, so I am sure you will get all of the answers you need in the weeks and months ahead.

You only really need one working distro.

@Marky_D_Sahdd

Logical and sleek defines OS4.1 but not Ubuntu 12.04LTS which, under the cute graphical desktop (Gnome-based) Unity & Launchpad icon "interfaces" is cryptic Linux/Unix beast that takes a papal blessing to get it to group similar program icons in folders like Windows, Macs, and the Amiga.

OS4.1 is sleek, fast and Amiga logical with Python, simple CLI commands and the customization that defines the classic Amiga experience.
