@Akiko

The http proxy script is only 8k but somehow I doubt OS4 python will have all the needed components and as I know absolutly nothing about python I'm not even going to attempt to run it.

Wow..that's really a cool idea! Wonder if it can be made to work with the Amiga?

@amigang

Will it be able to also do flash?

I don't quite see the point. Who would need to use an old browser? A few examples there used x86 and MS which is a moot point as they are updated. The only point I see is for Amiga users who are forced to use old rendering web browsers. And they aren't even mentioned.

My Pentium 90 is running Windows 95 and I am planning to keep it so. It is obsolete but always interesting peek to technology that did exist in 90s. It has few games I like to play on it.

But why would I want to run a browser on it? That is because if there is any issue that need to be solved I can solve it on that machine. Using two computers (or my iPad) simultaneously to solve sound issues or anything else is cumbersome. It is just easier when you can copy & paste without having to type it in manually.

That Pentium has been unused something like 8 years now, though

@Hypex

Of course it won't do flash or even gif anims, all you get is a static picture of the web page.

I for one would need to use an old browser on my PPC macs as they ARE NOT updated. Apple are doing everything they can to make ppc macs obsolete so you are forced to buy new hardware... for example..

safari & firefox have no flash support anymore, websites often complain they're too old and need upgrading.

itunes cannot be upgraded as it's x86 only now and I can no longer connect my itouch to it. I have loads of data on my itouch that the only way to get it off is via itunes

I asked the developer

Q: Do you think it would work with classic Ibrowse?

A: It's just gifs and image maps. You'd be hard pressed to find a browser it wouldn't work on.

anybody tried it yet?

@rats

Unless you have OS4 and or python running on your classic amigas you can forget it. I really think python would be far too slow on even an 060.

@Severin

You'd need to run this thing on a server, not your local machine.

If the script is only 8k as you say then it likly needs a webkit binding or simlar for python, haven't noticed anyone porting that to AmigaOS4!

A silly question but is it just a static image comes up, or can you click links and navigate about?

I recall using a Pentium '90 with Windows '95 on the internet around ten years ago. Or I tried. IE just crashed. I thought it was badly coded if it crashed interpreting a text file.

The Amiga wasn't so bad after that. The Amiga browsers crash like on a "normal" computer.

This is the type of thing I mean. There should be no need to keep it around. Both PCs and Windows have been updated sice and one gen should replace another.

BTW, if given a choice between a PC and an Amiga from the era of '95, I wouldn't choose the PC named after that year.

@Severin

I don't get Apple sometimes. One year they are promoting AlitVec which even Wikipedia claims is superior to the x86 vector extension and the next they dump the whole architecture. Even to the point of even alkmost banning PPC altogether. And snubbing previous and powerful machines. Not even supporting their own hardware but supporting ten year old PCs and an OS just as old. What the? Old 32-bit Intel is better than newer 64-bit PPC? They support an old PC and version of Windows but don't support their own recent machines and previous version of the OS? Huh? What what a bunch of Apple Fruit Bats!

For the resons you speak of is why a friend went Intel with Apple. And he was a dedicated PPC fan. But I think he should have researched a bit more, there are some solutions.

Apple's dispute with Adobe should have helped, as they actually made a popular computer, but without flash. But it seems it didn't, even the Amiga still suffers fron non-flash issues.

Having still using PPC Macs, I've only noticed a problem in Firefox or TenfourFox which is worse regarding flash. With Safari, it has been fine. It worked fine on 10.4 for ages and I had no major issue with 10.5. However, there was a "hack" where you fooled the software into thinking you had the latest flash. Since it looked like Adobe was attacking PPC as well by bumpimg a version with no code changes that only worked on x86.
