| Hi,
I have a PCI card that I salvaged from an old PC, with 3x1394 and 5xUSB ports. It has VIA 6214L and VIA6306 chips on it but I don't know which does which job.
Has anyone tried one of these in an OS4 platform? I don't know if the chipset is supported or not, but it would be really good to be able to upgrade the A1-XE to USB 2.

The 6214L should work, but chances are not good, that it is recognized by the USB driver. I tried several VIA cards which should be supported, but the cards were not recognized at all. |

Thanks for that answer. It doesn't look worthwhile to re-arrange all my drives (I currently have an SiI0680, SiI3114 and an SB Live! card).
I think the A1-XE is beginning to show its age. I'm slowly swinging all my work over to the X-1000.

Thanks for the suggestions. I can't try it in the 66 MHz slot, since anything in that slot shares the same interrupt request line as the display and chaos ensues in a "fixed" XE.

according our HW database on intuitionbase.com, a version of that card has been reported as working on a micro A1 system. well -- the USB ports anyway. let me know if it works for you, and i can update our entry. thanks!

| Speaking about USB cards I am after a compatible o e with AmigaOne / OS4.
If someone got a spare one, drop me a line.

I'll try it. I was going to try it in one of the Sams (where I have spare slots), but I just noticed that it is a 5V only card.
Does anyone remember if the A1-XE PCI slots are 3.3V or 5V or both? I seem to recall that they are 5V, but it was ten years ago now.

There's is a note about a PCI VGA card being 3.3 compliant in the AmigaOne Quickstart Guide you should have lying around somewhere. But it isn't specific about what can and can't be used reagrding voltage. In fact it misses a bit of this info. Which seems a bit poor. Voltage not even mentioned in MAI section that I can see.
When did 5V/3.3V dual cards come in. So is yours 5V only? |

Yes, my card is 5V only (single key slot). I vaguely remember ML discussion about the lack of keying in the A1's PCI slots, but not what it can tolerate. It was all a long time ago now.

That's new to me. I'm pretty sure the AGP graphics card and a card in the nearby PCI slot do not share the same PCI interrupt line (the interrupts usually need to be swizzled between slots).

AFAICT the three PCI slots on PCI bus 0 operate on 5V I/O voltage. The AGP/PCI slot on PCI bus 1 is for 3.3V compatible cards only (especially, if you have an AGP graphics card in there, which is 3.3V only anyway!).

I finally got around to trying it. If I put the USB combo card in the 66 MHz slot, the system won't boot properly - I get messages about the USB controller being unusable and once I get past all the error requesters, I have no USB at all.
If I plug it into one of the other PCI slots, it is not recognised. I think I'll just throw it out with all the other unusable PC junk.

Not a good sign. At least now we know. I wonder if it works in the X1000? |
