Idea: AmigaOS 4 online tour

Aside from using AmigaOS 4.1 on my AmigaOne 500, I'm an Arch Linux user (though I've used Ubuntu in the past). But admittedly, Ubuntu has a pretty neat online, interactive tour: http://www.ubuntu.com/tour/en/#

And since quite a few of us on this forum are seeking ideas to make AmigaOS 4 relevant outside of our communities again (even if just a little), I was thinking: maybe we could do the same as Ubuntu. Just a simple online, interactive tour where one can 'feel' how AmigaOS 4 works. It might not be *the* answer, but it might get some people interested.

What do you guys think?

That's cool. At first I thought I could use Ubuntu without rebooting my AmigaOne but then I found YouTube still doesn't work so there's no point.

And they still have that dreadful Dash in place of the Linux memus. You mean they still don't find that hard to use yet? I want to see all applications in a a menu structure, not scroll endlessly through some odd icons on the left until I locate it. That's not user friendly!

We do have the OS site here:
http://www.amigaos.net/

And there is that cool video made with screen dragging, videos anmd games playing on the Workbench.

But I agree, an OS4 emulator would be a cool thing. How hard are these OS emulators to write? You could take a Javascript Amiga emulator as a base and apply an OS4 theme to it.

Making it simple would help, just emulate a window moving around and some icons. Good idea man.

@Hypex

Why not just point people to this simulator? Not as much of a "guided" tour as the Ubuntu one you linked to, but at least it seems like using an Amiga

LOL! It almost worked on iBrowse but ended up in a simulated Guru.

This is what I was thinking of and it's been updated to OS4.1. It actually looks quite realistic. And looks like quite a lot of work has gone into it. I suspect it works more fluent on faster hardware than my A1. Phase one Online tour complete!

@Hypex

Works in Odyssey without any guru (however scrolling down the desktop reveals a black 'unrendered' area).
Quite a nice demo, but quite sluggish - ironically the one thing it doesn't manage to convey is 'responsiveness'.

@themamboman

I didn't know that existed! That's actually a nice base to start a more guided online tour of! :)

@Vistaus

Great idea. We did this @ Genesi with a virtual morphos system so alot of the Motorola devs could try morphos. (When MOrphos was no longer installed on ODW boxes)
