Hey guys and girls I've just bought Dragon Quest and I can't get it to load.When it boots up it comes up with a DQ error message, I don't have it hooked up right now so I can't tell you the specifics of it. I have managed to get to part of the start screen but it keeps going back to this message. I'm kinda new to this so please take it easy on me!

Any help would be great!

thanks!

What is friend amiga? Or have I mis-read that somehow...by re-loading it do you mean eject the disc then re-enter it,or turn off the whole unit then back on again?

Thanks for the reply!

Can´t find this game in public game databases (HOL, mobygames) - I found only "Dungeon Quest".

Details about error message could help to solve this problem.

As I wrote above, I don´t know your game, but there are some general A600 "issues":
Some older games (before 1991/1992) don´t like Kickstart 2.x in A600 - this can be solved by using Kickstart 1.x eg. via SKick (Note: image of 1.x Kickstart is needed).

Do you have harddrive? Many games can be installed thanks to WHDLoad.

...and of course

Welcome!

I have a feeling this is going to be a title that requires a earlier kickstart image. Try and find a kick degrader/downgrader. Or, if you want something a little more permanent then look at getting a rom switcher to.go inside the 600.

I had a 600 and did some modding to it. So I went through all this.

Yeah I thought I might have needed a kickdowner to bump it down. Do you know where the best place to get one from? I imagine ebay?

EBay UK, amibay maybe. I potentially have one laying around because I no longer have a physical Amiga and just rely on emulation.

If I find it I will PM you.

I got one of these when I had a 600 and it was a good bit of kit. If I can't find the disk then maybe look into one of these. That's if you stick to physical media.

@Rudei

I don't have a external one, how do I check if I have one inside? I sound like a proper noob...well to be honest I kinda am.I had a Amiga when I was a kid and thought it would just be simple to pick it back up again...I seem to have forgotten a few things...I'm sorry if i'm coming across a bit naive but this is relative new.

@Bish8

Your Amiga 600 will say a600hd on the metallic front sticker. And you will both hear and feel it spin up and where the lights are the hd light will flash for a lot longer. Not all 600hd's did though.

AmigaOS would probably boot from HD. If you boot OS from floppy disks, you have no HDD installed. A600 uses IDE interface for HDDs, it is relative easy (and cheap) to install CF card instead of classic HDD.

@others

Can someone link good step-by-step CF card/HDD installation guide?

I found these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsEWvxnHdNk
http://www.2e0zak.co.uk/amiga/CF-setup.html

And another one (really good), but only in Czech language:

@pavlor

You'd need some extra RAM really though, an A600 with a CF Card with stock 1mb is pretty useless.

WHDLoad runs ok on my A600 with an extra 1mb in the trapdoor and 2mb PCMCIA RAM expansion, even with 4mb some games run out of RAM though. I don't fancy your chances running anything with 1mb.

If You have a booting computer without any disks in the drive there is a hd.

There is no warranty so very carefully it's possible to turn the machine when all cables removed and power first offcourse off. Anything You do take the power cord off and earth Yourself in a heater,sink etc. Then put a foliocap on;)

Place the Miga upwards on a soft chair with good light.
Only a nice + small screwdriver is needed to remove the screws, firmly if You have any confidence to do so.

My way in a new thing is to draw a sketch on a blank paper and "drill" the screws in the drawing as they were.

There can be or is not an 2,5" hd inside.

Before Google all instructions and Wiki and all. Also the dd can be faulty or the disk itself as were talking about antique nowdays.

Summing it up: Don't listen to PR and instructions for DIY are all over the net.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5svNq2grTEU

I hate when the guy sticks his fingers like in a frech fry but anyways a 4GB inside.

Sell me one for an A1200!
