| I was about to copy a video DVD disc with Amiga SW and bumped to some issues: There was no way to burn a disc image (store it, or copy to a blank DVD) because of its size: I have DOS/07 partitions (system & work). The software I tried was MakeCD, FryingPan & AmiDVD. Is there an option to have split files for such a case?
I ended up ripping the individual .vob files, which brings us to the next problem: I`d like to store the video files, preferably compressed as .avi. I tried FFmpegGUI but there are more than one .vob files to be merged as one .avi file. There is an option regarding 2 files ( combining an audio file with a video file ), but what about 2,3 or more video files?
Any help is appreciated. _________________ Ordell Robbie: Is she dead, yes or no? Louis: Pretty much. |

same topic and worth a look
I mentioned the vob vs actual file issue, as you can see.
My solution was simply to use a different platform and VLC, which allows you to set start and end points for a file you wish to strip from a complete DVD.

To convert use:
ffmpeg -i "CD0:VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB" -i "CD0:VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_2.VOB" -i "CD0:VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_3.VOB" -b:v 1600k -acodec copy "work:converted-movie.avi"
The easiest way if you are doing a lot of dvds is just to add another dvdrw to your system, internal or external USB/esata etc. and do direct copies with amidvd's "on the fly" option.
You could simply Copy the DVD to your harddrive and then burn it with the "on the fly" option, you do not need to create an iso file. Last edited by Severin on 19-Jul-2014 at 03:50 PM.

Try VideoClipper from OS4Depot. It will allow you to join and convert many files.

Believe it or not, you can use the AmigaDOS join command to join VOB files together
c:join VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_2.vob {etc} to MyMovie.VOB
This will create a mammoth file MyMovie.VOB which you can then unleash FFMpeg on. _________________ --------------- AmigaOne X5000 P5020 2Ghz, OS 4.1 AmigaOne XE G4 800mhz, OS 4.1 A1200T 40Mhz 68040, OS 3.9 |

But only two files IF the second one isn't 1gb. He's using FFS2 so the filesize limit is iirc 2gb - 2bytes. _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

Correct.
File size is limited to 2^31 (2gb)

Good point. I'd say if you're going to work with video files, Cass should create at least one SFS/02 partition. They can get very big. _________________ --------------- AmigaOne X5000 P5020 2Ghz, OS 4.1 AmigaOne XE G4 800mhz, OS 4.1 A1200T 40Mhz 68040, OS 3.9 |

But this will be a problem when using ffmpeg too unless he re-encodes to a much lower bitrate in which case the quality will suck. Better use a large file supporting partition (either of NTFS3G, SFS2 or JXFS will do) if he's going to be ripping DVDs IMO. |

Most DVDrips with avi, xvid etc. drop down to 700mb to 1.2gb with 1600 br, it shouldn't be a problem. Scale it down to 640x480 or similar if you have to. I ripped 3 series of a tv show from dvd's I'd bought that wouldn't play on any dvd player I tried but I could read them on my X1000 so I converted them all (66 episodes) with that line and got around 500-550mb per episode as I wanted to keep quality rather than go for the smallest file size.
Sfs2 won't kelp, that's got a 4gb-2bytes limit so not a full DVD, jxfs could be used but ONLY for temporary files, eg. a 9gb partition for a single dual layer dvd image, use it as a cache rather than storage. No idea about ntfs3g.
