Hi all

I have a Picasso card in my A3000 and I've installed the drivers correctly (I think) I get screenmodes in the screenmode prefs in Workbench but I can't figure out how to put a modern lcd on it through the graphics cards vga-port. Is this even possible or am I way off here ?

@Superfrog

Just adjust the screenmode frequency to 60 Hz - should work. What's the range of the monitor? Doesn't it have a VGA input?

Okej, but I have to use an old crt to even get to workbench, through the Amigas own port, and changing the frequency when using that monitor wouldn't that disrupt that old monitor ?

@zipper

Anyway I'm going to try some things later tonight, but it just seems odd that I can't get picture through the picasso.

if you click the "Test/Try" button (instead of the "Save" one), the output will switch back to the old monitor after a few seconds.

When you are sure that the Picasso output will work correctly, come back to the Screenmode prefs and click "Save".

@Superfrog

With Picasso II it's easy with the switcher - if your RTG mode doesn't work you're thrown back to the 15 kHz monitor. Just have to swap the monitor.

If any help here is the vga to the lcd from PIV and to the same monitor from the original RGB to scart. The only annoying thing is to switch them from the remote control but can live with that.

@Vanhapolle

My U2410 has no problem displaying 1024x768 - in fact I don't think I've found a resolution it doesn't display, including native AGA modes via the VGA connector. But my A1200 uses 1600x1000 which is certainly not a standard resolution, but is as high as I can go with the Voodoo 3 and still keep the 16:10 aspect.

@Superfrog

This is why it's handy to have a scan doubler built in like the PicassoIV model does. Otherwise it's a PITA needng another monitor and can look stranger as well.

Also the software provided tends to be complicated and hard to use compared to real plug and play. Not an easy affair to just switch RTG modes to 60Hz even

As the Amiga frequencies are on a seperate VGA port this should not affect an LCD on the RTG VGA port. So testing using Picassso96_TNG or whatever is included should be fine.

@Hypex

I'd love to have a Picasso IV card, I found one on Ebay's swedish site, but the price went up too high for me

I decided to go with the simple way of using Indivision cards for both my a3k and a4k.

The scandoubler on my a3k works fine, it's just that using an old crt on it makes my eyes hurt like crazy after about an hour so using a flickerfixer and scandoubler was the best solution

@Superfrog

I just installed a Picasso II today. I used the short male to male vga cable that came with the card and plugged it in to the Amiga's output to the Picasso's vga port (nearest the zorro slots) and then plugged my monitors cable into the other port.

The Amiga's video then gets passed through to the monitor. Then I didnt use the drivers that came with the card but instead installed Picasso96 of the Amigaos3.9 cd.

I then got my monitors specs up (googled it) and adjusted the settings in Picasso96 config to match my monitors and just kept testing until it looked right.

Hope that helps or points you in the right direction.

@Superfrog

Yeah best to avoid eye burn these days.

I put up with a TV for way too long and it most likely has contributed to my failing eye sight.

I had a chance to buy an Amiga monitor, MicroVTech or sometihng brand (Goodle didn't help). But the guy selling it could not tell me how to get VGA modes full screen. 15Khz was fine but 31Khz was shrunk and I just couldn't accept it. Most likely I was unware of overscan in those days but it didn't make sense that someone who owned a multisync didn't know how to get full use out if it.

I regretted that as I'm sure I would have worked it out and it would have been better for my eyes. I later got a VGA only monitor and had to sacrifice some games for a better Workbench mode. It could do 15Khz in half screen though.
