Hey all,

I could have sworn, many years ago, there was an external power supply unit called Bigfoot, or something like that. Does anyone still have the units (US Power standards) for sale or know how you could fabricate your own? Thanks.

Ed

@edponpon

Yes there was. It was PC PSU in a custom case.

If you want to modify ATX PSU for Amiga use, check this page:
http://www.ianstedman.co.uk/Amiga/amiga_hacks/Amiga_Power_supplies/amiga_power_supplies.html

For AT PSU I've simply connected +5, +12, -12 and ground from P8 connector to Amiga (took Amiga power cable from broken Amiga PSU) and Power Good from P8 to +5 in P9.

There's more than enough information here to get a standard PSU connected to your Amiga.

@jPV

Thanks. This guy had a lot of good info and even had some connectors for sale. Unfortunately, the one piece I'd need from him isn't listed for sale, at least, not at the moment - picoPSU Adaptor. I could have sworn you could somehow make these work with the Amiga as well, IF you know the right combo of adapters - http://www.amazon.com/short-circuit-com-picoPSU-160-XT-AC-DC-barrel-connector/dp/B00AX3ZLQ2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1410139813&sr=8-2&keywords=picopsu-160-xt

AmigaKit - do you guys have a PicoPSU to Amiga 1200 adapter or can you make one?

Thanks.

Ed

Pico PSU would be the same as converting any other ATX PSU.

Did you know that the A1200 floppy power connector can also work as input. Not sure about other models.

@Rob

So you would know how to connect the picoPSU, the link I listed, with the Amiga 1200 somehow? I'm asking for a solution that simply allows me to plug things in versus me trying to cut, solder and possible make a total disaster of the PSU and my computer. I haven't any electrical experience at all.

@edponpon

The PicoPSU is just a tiny little ATX PSU, so it uses the same connections and signals to power on. It's a fairly simple circuit to make, but if you've never soldered before it might be better off not using this as your first ever project. I made a simple adapter for one of my A1200s and a PicoPSU, and it looks like this.

AmigaKit did have one for sale but it seems to be unavailable to buy at the moment. Clicky!
