| Hi there
I am thinking about getting a new monitors for my Amigas. Which one I should go on with? I think a monitor with 4:3 ratio is better for Amiga. I got Indivision AGA MK-2 on my both A4000T and A1200. Is there any LCD/LED monitors out there which can handle Amigas own AGA screen modes?
Thanks! |

4:3 is certainly best for oldskool Amigas. Not sure where you're from but a TV with SCART it's the best way to go if those are available.

4:3 LCD monitors will be extremely hard to find. By a 16x9 1080p monitor that does 4:3 scaling.
I have an Amiga Mediator tower with a voodoo 3 graphics card. I run my Workbench in 1920x1080 @ 16 bit. It runs pretty smooth (68060/66 helps :)

If you can find one, a Dell U2410 is just great. 1920x1200 native resolution, multiple inputs for connecting several machines at once, 4:3 support, and even supports native 15kHz video input on the VGA port, though that's less important for you with your Indivision _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

| TV/Scart is really out of question as I have possibility to use HDMI and DVI output on my Amigas. It has to be monitor with one of such or both inputs. I actually have one BenQ Full HD monitor but I dunno if it does 4:3 scaling automatically. I always have to switch 4:3 manually which can be pain in the arse from time to time.
I also have Voodoo 3 on my A4000T (and that Indivision AGA MK2 on both A4000T and A1200). |

Also you can use a traditional square monitor, today they continue in the market. |

| Dell U2410 looks awesome and Dell used to do some Amiga hardware back in the day, so that's even cooler. :)
Unfortunatelly, looks like it's already 5 years old model and not available anymore. Do you know if there's is a successor for this monitor? Last edited by Karpow on 11-Oct-2014 at 06:47 AM. Last edited by Karpow on 11-Oct-2014 at 06:31 AM.

maybe you can search using words dell ultrasharp composite. i dont know if they accept such VGA Singal but they have at least composite input like this display what we talk. I quickly found this display about 500dollars i think Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP which seems be have features. with pegasos 2 with radeon 7000 pal/ntsc like modes dont work but 640x480 with 15khz and 37hz laced showed very fine (i dont tired set picture size correct but other ways). maybe more real pal/n tsc works better when i get cables. ps. also is hard wait when i can get 1920x1200 resolution with my Pegasos2 hardware...(Radeon 7000 not make ncie picture then but i get soon better card) and display is buyed mainly for Macs in my case but nice see is work finely even with Pegaoss 2 and ClassicAmiga with CV64/3d. Accepts wide sync choices than few cheaper ones.(like one Viewsonic, and Benq or even my old (what i dont own anymore) Finlux tv i wait LG tv....) which dont like some non standrad syncs what Amiga graphic card makes. |

I don't think there are any multisync monitors like this still being produced. If there were any, I would have got myself a couple :)
Although there should be some monitors that can run the standard pal and ntsc resolutions. But if you are thinking about 800-600 and 1024-768, the only monitor (I have seen) that can do these is M1438S.Last edited by Ancalimon on 12-Oct-2014 at 12:01 AM.

All modern monitors can do the set of normal 4:3 resultions like 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960, etc. Maybe not all can do proper scaling though, especially not automatically. Some have settings to always "stretch"/"keep aspect"/"pixel-by-pixel box". It differs.
Btw. I have a Dell U2410f. Tried it but the native 1920x1200 resolution needed to be configured to 50Hz to display properly. Either the RadeonHD RAM-DAC is too slow or I don't have the right DVI cable... It has A LOT of inputs and features though, but I don't like its color. I find it a bit bleedy. I'm used to Samsung SyncMasters._________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

I was talking about AGA screenmodes that have non standard frequencies :)
My M1438s can display 1024-768 but my other VGA monitors can not when connected to my Amigas. The only mode normal VGA monitors support is Productivity 640x480 Last edited by Ancalimon on 12-Oct-2014 at 04:11 PM.

| Got a white LCD (have to be white;) Samsung LE with scart and vga to the A1200. Changes well the modes. HDMI and USB too(never used). Maybe sharper could be better as this HP monitor but that is a tv too.. The connections are important. The A1 is with the pc in the same and third and fourth.. |

Any LCD TV (not monitor) should handle the Amiga's native modes fine.
To be honest I gave up trying to use an LCD or Plasma on my Amiga, after buying 5 different ones and none of them looking "right" or authentic, I got a nice CRT.
All Amiga software and the system was designed to be used with CRT and it just looks so much nicer, as you remember it looking back in the day, I wouldn't use anything else for the Amiga.ldn't use anything else for the Amiga. Last edited by danwood on 13-Oct-2014 at 10:32 AM.

Does it accept the Amiga modes directly in VGA? |

They can over composite but with VGA it's a luck of the draw as with any VGA monitor. |

Right. That differs a lot. Some may display but it could look quite wierd, as if the monitor chooses the wrong scaler.
Any kind of scaling looks pretty bad on LCDs though. They are really only useful with their true resolution, even if they scale proportionally and manage to keep the entire picture on the screen (which is not always the case).

Nope this is using an IndivisionAGA MRK2 via HDMI :)
The colors look great because it's got LED backlighting and it's a perfect 1:4 scale for PAL low res 320*256 to 1280 * 1024 (native resolution). This is probably the best you can get with an LCD.
A CRT arguably produces a better picture but a decent CRT with good colors is very hard to find these days (and they weigh a ton!)Last edited by NovaCoder on 13-Oct-2014 at 10:33 PM.
