Hi all,
(Still no spelchecker, bear with me )
Yester day I was editing the dutch wikipage of the North video game crash of 1983 because I felt that it was very baised towards Nintendo and thus there were 'errors' on the page.
For example it says that the video game crash was fixed by the "world wide succes" of the Nintendo Entertainment System. I think that it is very much commen knowlage among retro gamers, historians and older Europeans that the NES certanly wasn't very succesful in Europe and other parts of the world like South America (e.g. Brazil with the Mastersystem). Also this could be interpetened that the crash also happened world wide.
At the beginning of the page there is no mention of the influnce of home computers, which played a very important role in the crash, but it does have a section dedicated on how the succes of homecomputers prevented the crash from happening in Europe and because of that Consoles were a niche market. but this section is, very much out of place, is moved completly at the bottem of the page afther lots of indirect Nintendo praising and a conclusion.
So this is were I need help.
I edited the page at the beginning so that it said in bold "The crash and the Nintendo Entertainment System did not have any effect in Europe this is due the rise of the homecomputers in Europe and Commodore's agressive marketing See Homecomputers in Europe" (or whatever that section was called, and with agressive marketing I meant like "e.g. why get a toy when you can get a headstart for your child's future")
No mumbo jumbo added, everthing was already stated in the page. But of course it got deleted outright, because "I didn't have a citation" Suprise suprise, The account of the guy who undid states that his one of his favorite past time is playing Nintendo.. "No uber specific source means that it never happed ! hur hur"
So what I'm asking is, can anyone give me a solid citation that proves that Homecomputers were popular in Europe and Consoles weren't, would be nice if it is centered around the Commodore 64 and the NES.
And a source stating that the NES wasn't succesful in Europe, as he also undid my correction so that it now again says "world wide succes"
The only sources I can come up with are indepth video's from British gamers who grew up back then in the Speccy, Amstrad and C64 days. But I think that Youtube video's won't count as solid evidence.
If anyone got a little ticked off thinking that I hate the NES, that isn't the case at all. I do find that homecomputers are extremely underrated and uncredited however.
Here's the link to the page if anyone's interested. _________________ Best way to enjoy Amiga is without the community |
