| Just set up OS 3.9 on my new 040 A4000 with Picasso IV, 256 mb of RAM and X-Surf-100 ethernet.
However, I have a weird problem, the backdrop window on Workbench won't disable on boot. If I go to the Workbench menu and untick it, it vanishes. I then click on the Workbench and try Snapshot Window and Snapshot all, I've also snapshotted all the drive icons and windows too, but every time I reboot the backdrop window is back on!
Is there any other way to disable it on boot, or any reason why it wouldn't shapshot?

I can't remember for sure where the Workbench window setting is saved, but I think it was in the disk.info file of the SYS: volume. Do you have some funky icon on your boot drive maybe? Or no icon at all? Or is the disk.info file write-protected? Sometimes files copied from CD can be set as read-only - did you do the installation via WinUAE or something like that? _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

I did set the system up in WinUAE, but the icons are just the standard ones 3.9 puts on.
I've tried issuing
PROTECT SYS: +W ALL
from Shell, and then snapshotting and rebooting again, but it still comes back. How frustrating!
Any other ideas?
I set my 1200 hard disk up the same way and it works fine on that. |

Try "protect sys:disk.info +D" too? Maybe whole icon is deleted/rewritten? Just a quick guess.. :) _________________ - The wiki based MorphOS Library - Your starting point for MorphOS - Software made by jPV^RNO |

Ok, after a bit more investigation with snoopdos, it seems it's not stored on sys:disk.info, it's actually in envarc:sys/workbench.prefs
I deleted that file, rebooted, and ran Workbench prefs again and it sorted it, gone now :) |

Ah, good to know. I remember having strange files write-protected after installing OS3.9 in a WinUAE setup. Probably due to the CD drive emulation... _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

Nice setup. Does that mean you like a bordered (normal) Workbench window? I didn't know you could save that. |
