Believe it or not, Minecraft actually has some quite demanding graphics processing. Despite the fact that it looks like an 8-bit game at first glance, it needs quite a beefy graphics card to play smoothly. The Amiga would simply not have the power needed to play it properly, even with a graphics card. |

| i'd rather say that minecraft consumes a lot of CPU (and not gfx card).
isn't it developed in Java? |

| It works on a Pi as well. So power is not the problem. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! Appstore - AmiWallet - VAN lossless video codec - AMC Amiga media Center -KrypUnite - LibertyNet - MinX - amigaNX |

| @danwood I disagree there was several attempt to make a Minecraft clone on Amiga see http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=game/misc/punchtree.lha
But I agree : the coders judged that the result was not fast enough Certainly it will need a smart algorithm to reduce drastically the number of faces to draw
For example : a cube show at max 3 faces, those faces depend on the view orientation and the part of the screen were they are : cubes on the top of the screen show their bottoms,etc..

| Yep Java. It uses Libgdx. I think that It could run pretty well on the Amiga, I installed it under OSX and Linux on a PowerBook 1.67 it' not that bad, so an X1000 or above would run it well.

Just to clarify, by Amiga I was talking about classics not X1000 etc (as this is in general chat, not os4).
But yeah, if the OS4 systems struggle, then no chance of an A1200 etc. running it smoothly. |

| @danwood Sorry you are right : ) On real Amiga's Minecraft is a no go. Technically a PPC board with a 3D card would work Problem is JAVA...
So there must be looked for a Minecraft "clone" which would be at best written in C.
I found that: https://sites.google.com/a/yvt.jp/openspades/
But it has much higher requirements than minecraft.
@mcbone latest Raspbian does include it already. It should work out of the box.

| @phoenixkonsole I tried a clone myself, but no way to get this running on classic. Already the memory rewuirements are too high. http://www.amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=34040&forum=32&8#624552 _________________ -- Author of HD-Rec, Sweeper, Samplemanager, ArTKanoid, Monkeyscript, Toadies, AsteroidsTR, TuiTED, PosTED, TKPlayer, AudioConverter, ScreenCam, PerlinFX, MapEdit, AB3 Includes and many more... Considering it's a game written in Java and (more or less) owned by Microsoft, I'd say the chances are slim at best
Not because Microsoft would see Amiga as competition, of course, but "something completely pointless". |
