Is there a significance in the difference does anyone know? Total downloads vs unique downloaders maybe? Or perhaps complete downloads vs partial / aborted downloads?
Not a big deal really but I've noticed it for many packages and I'm the curious type
All search results on Aminet's web site - that includes the "Recent" list - are cached. That means if you search for something, the engine first checks if somebody else performed the same search recently and serves you the cached results if possible. This is done to keep actual database queries to a minimum.
A negative side effect is that download numbers in search results are always slightly lower than the actual number. But usually it's not more than a dozen or so downloads. It's slightly worse for stuff that has just been uploaded, obviously.
The real number is the one shown in the package description page.
