USB DRIVERLESS DAC

I don't know of any USB devices that will operate without drivers.
Can you offer more details?

Yes, will edit and correct my last post in this thread.

Portable USB DAC do not require any additional drivers for intended devices ie mobile phone/tablets & most will work with most of the above devices including other source components.

On a winblow computer a generic driver will be installed with some portable DAC,but some portable DAC do come with drivers.

I also would like more to have genereic DAC USB driver than dedicated PCIx driver - this could be more universal solution than single driver for one card. BUT if there I need to choose PCIx card that probably be Audiotrak Prodigy HD2 - in this price this card will be sounding likely better than any Creative card from this same level price.
For everyday I'm using DAC assembled by small Polish manufacturer - uNostromo DAC
This solution is very good for price 80 - 100 euro and would be awesome use it or something similar under AmigaOS4.1!

Nice

that wasn't the first pcie envy reported to work is it ?
Acube used to bundle one with the Sam460ex, are Pcie envy24ht's scarce ?

On that note, are new envy24ht's still being made ?

@Trewq

No it is no the first. A different model though.
Acube still bundle one with the Sam460cr models.
The Sam460cr and the X5000 dont have onboard audio
so I tend to keep my eyes open for supported pciex1 cards
as well as unsupported cards that an ahi driver could possibly be written for.
I would assume that envy24hts are still being made.

This is why I pointed out that some motherboard have S/PDIF, this should work with a external DACS or your home cinema or am I missing something.

My laptop has S/PDIF will test and post back here of result.

S/PDIF Update (Digital Audio) Test.

I can confirm S/PDIF from my laptop works. I was able to connect it direct to my speakers.

Unfortunately my speakers only take optical fibre which is a little rare for a 2.1 speaker set-up, but the good news is it should work with most PC speakers that use coaxial input (digital input). NOTE: I have never tested this configuration.

The reason I suggested this route is that it requires only the basic driver across most amiga platform until more sound cards are supported.

ALL MODIFICATION AT YOUR OWN RISK

Due to pci-e cards becoming more common, would a pci-e sound card work in an A1-XE using a pci to pci-e adapter card?

My old M-Audio 7.1 (envy24) seems to have died and I am looking for alternatives.

Almost as ironic has having 2 Ethernet ports but still requiring an Ethernet card!

Xmox chip was originally presented as new Amiga Custom chip.

http://www.xmos.com/products/audio/hi-res-audio
http://www.xmos.com/products/audio/multichannel
http://www.xmos.com/products/silicon/xcore-audio/hires

I don't know what development opportunity are possible with the xmos chip in the X1000.

Don't know if this chip still present in the x5000 or tabor.

@Spectre660

I would much prefer to see a driver for RadeonHD cards so we can use audio over HDMI specially as the newer design boards are heading towards zero expandability, lack of slots is a big problem, why add another card when R-HD graphics cards can output audio?

There must be drivers for linux so the audio bit just needs porting to an AHI driver (I know, sounds easy but probably isn't).

RadeonHD audio and USB audio would be good options .

Things got interesting with the discovery that certain CMI8738 cards cause problems .

@AmigaBlitter

Those look like dedicated audio hardware. What we have is the XCore CPU with a few cores and hardware threads running at 500Mhz. AFAIK it's little endian so perhaps it could be used to emulate a Commodore 64. LOL.
