i contine be sure the qemu user using is the faster cpu emultation solution, in any way ... probably if qemu will emulate a pegasos2 hardware and firmware you will have a working emultion with more ram , if will able too emultae a voodoo in this case you will able to have morphos too ;)

IIRC the Pegasos2 is PReP compliant. It had official Debian support. So you could try booting a MOS ISO with QEMU PReP. Or am I thinking CHRP? |

While WinUAE-PPC is a great start, there are limitations such as RAM architecture. For better memory usage, I'd like to see AmigaOne or Peg2 chipset added to Qemu itself, and improvements to the Qemu PPC emulation. (PPC improvements would help WinUAE as well I'd imagine, but better memory architecture would be better overall than limitations of Amiga Classic PPC from OS4.1 Classic) _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

| @billt Personally I plan to remove the cyber storm/blizzard ppc limitations. In the same matter it could end up in new physical results for classics.
But the technical stuff is beyond my own skills : ) I am sure together with some nice guys from a1k org and dce we can find a solution. Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 08-Nov-2014 at 04:56 PM. Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 08-Nov-2014 at 04:53 PM.

How do you port an OS to an emulator? AFAIK, QEMU uses an OpenFirmware approach, as PPC emulators tend to emulate PPC Macs. That being said, has anyone tried the Mac bootleg build of OS4 on QEMU? |
You port to the hardware the emulator presents. Qemu lets you select various things for your hardware. VGS graphcis include Cirrus 5446 (same as PicassoIV) or something as is used in VirtualBox and VMware (I forget the name). We have driver for 5446, but driver for the other one would be better (higher res, 3d capability, etc) Qemu does not at the moment emulate Articia or 686b chipsets, or whatever was used in Peg2 southbridge, etc. We'd need to either add these to Qemu, or make it a Sam460ex or whatever to run existing OS4.x, or add drivers for whatever chipsets ARE in Qemu now. And whatever other emulated devices and such.
I myself would love to see OS4 runnign in Qemu proper, as then we can start playing with VFIO to gain direct access to hardware devices, usually with a Linux host OS, and write Amiga OS-native drivers for actual hardware SATA, graphics, etc. If you actual hardware has a Radeon graphics, then depending on model we may actually run directly on that as soon as such a Qemu for OS4 boots up. This would also work on PPC hardware host, and let us run partial emulated OS4 while providing direct access to hardware peripherals to start hackign on drivers before the OS is native to that CPU (such as we couls work on drivers for T4240 SoC peripherals and have drivers ready before the OS is T4240 CPU native)
I asked about similar capability in FS-UAE, if they would support that from the Qemu end if things in that (similar to Qemu in WinUAE btu FS-UAE runs on Linux/*BSD for VFIO) but they did not sound interested. So back to wishing for Qemu-native, without the -UAE involved._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

Sounds limited. Also sounds complicated. Why not JIT all the instructions? |
From the sounds of things, others just have not been done yet. No FP, No Altivec as of yet.

I believe there is now a uboot option for Qemu. _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

I think the best way for have amiga os on an different machine is : Qemu Kvm on a Mac PPC with Passthru enabled under linux. Same can be on X86 Qemu-softmmu-ppc with Passthru enabled... you will have the video board on a pci (radeon 9200) used native by the emulated machine. _________________ I love Amiga and new hope by AmigaNG A 500 + ; CDTV; CD32; PowerMac G5 Quad 8GB,SSD,SSHD,7800gtx,Radeon R5 230 2GB; MacBook Pro Retina I7 2.3ghz; #nomorea-eoninmyhome |

Use hardware graphics directly from Qemu guest. |
Windows port I use right now has slower GFX than older version - I tried both CLGD5446 and VGA/VESA. I have "native" driver for Windows 95 (I use QEMU for some old Windows games not working on Windows 7 - like Dungeon Keeper). |

| AmigaOS Final edition should have been released at the end of November. Now it's before the end of the year. Let's say they were ready for end of November, this will mean that they're preparing something maybe with Cloanto for X-Mas and end of November was too soon to achieve this. So best way to install it is to wait :)
We'll see if the future prove me wrong or not ;)

Hyperion would have an easy sale from me if they did that. And maybe a couple months later A-Cube

Wasn't there the possibility to add 1GB via four 256MB Zorro memory cards? Perhaps that card isn't emulated but I wonder what is stopping the PPC card emulation from upping the RAM limit? I mean, UAE has 8MB chip RAM!
As to emulating A1 I wonder if emulating the chipset or south bridge is needed at all? I mean, it's all virtualised anyway and almost meaningless in emulation, as what is needed is to boot the OS and have support for the common chipsets that have drivers.
Quote:

Well in this case the OS already runs on the hardware presented so that is a good start. Is there some kind of Mediator emulation that can speed it up? I wonder if OS4 can work in USB2 mode in UAE?

AV is not so important, but no FP is pretty big. Don't all PPC processors support FP? I would have thought no FP support would make code useless.

Well there's a start. Now all it needs is a boota command and we are off.
Given AROS already included support to boot OS4 this might not be that hard. |

OS4 uses Z3 RAM as SWAP - not as reliable as real Fast RAM (at least in WinUAE). That needs to be changed in OS4 (should be easy).

FPU is emulated, it is only sloooow. |
