| Following on from the successful remastering of Wings, cinemaware are now looking to fund a reloaded Rocket Ranger game via kickstarter.
Still early in the funding process, the new artwork and planned features are making this shape up to be an interesting venture. Like wings, it is retaining the original source material and remastering the graphics and audio, but unlike wings, the intention is to also add new content to the gaming experience.
The source is going to be made available as well to allow it to be ported to other platforms not directly supported by the initial release. They do list AmigaOS as a potential target if people are able to port over the source material to that platform. _________________ Test sig (new) |

Thanks for the link. I was quite hesitant when they asked for money for Wings, but they delivered a solid product.
Rocket Ranger was my favourite Cinemaware game, so supporting the kickstarter is a nobrainer for me in that regard.
Looks like they will be able to meet the kickstarter limiation.
As for Amiga version(s), I think thats a pipedream. When you pledge you have to assume its for the platform listed and anything beyond that is a welcome suprise. I think AeonKit got enough on their plate already, if not go for Unity like mentioned above Last edited by Overflow on 15-Nov-2014 at 05:31 PM.

| I really really hope it will be better than remastered version of Wings. The 2D parts are OK, but the dogfight part is soo bad and boring. I am not talking about graphics but the gameplay. Even on hard the fights are damn short and easy. Enough, I am going to play the good old Amiga original...

I do agree the dogfights got a bit long in the tooth after a while, but the game itself was relativly close to the original.
We might have a certain rosetinted view of the old gems. I do remember I loved Rocket Ranger back in the days, and the media released so far looks promising. |

Well the PC demo has now been available for a bit. It isn't too bad at a first glance., retaining the feel of the original but with the enhanced graphical styling that they have produced for this edition.
With only 9 days to go it still has a fair amount to raise. It is possible to get there, and I would like to see it achieve its goal.
Whether an Amiga version ever becomes a reality is another thing entirely - I am sure some people would like that, but right now just getting the enhanced remake made would be a nice beginning.
While I didn't back the Wings remake, this one I have as I was much more interested in it and had a lot of fun with the original Amiga game (and even the C64 version too - helped the codewheel was the same on both formats as someone in my household managed to lose the Amiga one). _________________ Test sig (new) |

Well, I would think Amiga need better tools for a easy(ish) development/version. Not like I know much coding or development processes, but I do remember a thread a while ago that AOS is lacking a complete basic development enviroment and industry standards. | before wee dream about Unity dont wee need openGL first ?? or is the curent or the warp3d in development powerfull anuf to do the job ???...
do wee gona see openGL comming with os 4.1 final or 4.2 or maby comming itself some time.. so os 4.1 final is to rap up all the update alone with the radeion drivers. and then os 4.2 will give amiga os multicore and openGL or just multicore.. about multicore is it just multicore or allso multi treading to ?

| This campaign is now in its final 3 hours, and needs just $300 to be funded.
As it stands right now there is an extended playable tech demo for the PC which is worth a download for those capable of playing it.
Recent additions have been Android and iOS ports being made as well as the PC and Mac versions (this was initially an additional goal to have the mobile versions).
The game does look promising.
While ports are dependent on the Unity framework being available for the target machine, the is meant to be made available to anyone wishing to tackle the task.

Looks like it might just barely get funded. 2 hours to go and the total pledged went from $90,036 to $90,007 as I was watching it. That is only one pledge over the required $89,999 needed to make the kickstarter successful, so it is going to be close.
I never played the original, but own it for the past few years. Maybe I will see if the floppy disks are still good and try to load it up today and give it a spin. _________________ Amiga! It made the funding target which was nice. I played both the Amiga and C64 versions of the game when it was released originally, and it is a fantastically fun game. Challenging at the same time since it is random each time you play it, but an enjoyable and engrossing title the first time you play it and pay attention to the story line. _________________ Test sig (new) |

Am I the only person who had hell just trying to take off?
I'm like Dave in that I bought it and shelved it. It looked good, but I spent most of my time falling flat on my face. _________________ AmigaOne X1000, A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, A500, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, CBM4032, Efika, Ultimate64 |

Yeah, I had several rage fits during my youth playing that game, but I sort of got the hang of it ... ish.
But It was one of the more memorable games, and what Cinemaware have produced so far is quite promising. |

There was a knack to the take offs, but it was actually a lot easier in the C64 version as I recall over the Amiga one. _________________ Test sig (new) |

| Why do only the worst Cinemaware games get remade?
Where is Defender of the Crown 3? or a Sinbad sequel? |
