Personal Paint 7.3 PPC [Queries & Suggestions]

Just bought Personal Paint 7.3 through AMIStore for my AmigaOS 4.1 system, and after played with it a little bit, it's really cool. It was not so difficult to change the resolution to match my Workbench's but I would really love an option to lock my resolution for all images. For example, when I load an image which has different resolution I always asked to choose between the original (in that case, if the image is 320x200 it just shrinks/adapts the program as well) and my custom resolution, which I always want.

I got an error requester on startup which says that the Personal.font is the incorrect version. Is there a fix about that?

Also, would be possible to choose a more standard fixed truetype font than a bitmap font in the future? I'm saying this, because I want to translate it to greek, but apparently those bitmap fonts doesn't include the greek characters, and apparently they appear as empty characters in the end.

Not quite sure what you asking here, on loading an image with a different size, you'll a requester asking if you want the new size or the current size, and if you choose the current size, you then can choose to "stretch" the image to fit or not.

Are saying you don't want to see that requester? If so then I think you probaly haven't thought all the consequnces through as alarger image will get cropped in that case, which you don't want as you will be able to drag it arround with the middle mouse button.

Another option is to load the image as a brush.

Note you can only save an image full size unless you cut a section out with the brush tool and then save that as a brush, so smaller images will be expanded.

Do you have another earlier installtion of PPaint? Make sure that PPaint: is not asigned in your user startup if so.
Alternatively make sure there is no Personal font in the main system FONTS:

@broadblues

Forgot to address the font issue.

Personal.font contains some custom glyphs, so simply replacing it is not as simple as it would seem. Not an impossibilty though, but fiddly, this is why the version matters BTW as you need certain glyphs to represent different painting modes etc.

BTW. just to make sure, are all features of the original version preserved now that it's mostly rewritten? Especially palette operations like merging (from brushes, secondary image, etc), remapping, depth reducing etc, which have been the killer features of this program.

Nothing has been taken away, so if you could do it before you can do it now.

@broadblues

I never had installed a previous version of PPaint in my system, thus there is no assign at my user-startup file. Also there is not a personal.font in my system's FONTS directory.

So, about truetype fonts, is this doable in a future version?

That's very odd, then, I don;t even see this error with my old 7.1 install anymore since I removed the personal.font rom my fonts: drawer.

Can you post a snoopy log making sure both FOpen and Open are checked in the menus so I can see where it's finding the font.

Then can you list the PPaint:fonts/ directory "list all" so that can verify that you got teh same font as me, can't see how it would differ, but you never know.

As to the truetype thing, it might not be the best solution, creating an expanded set of personal fonts with differeing charater sets might be better, or perhaps a dedicated personal postscript / truetype font with the custom glyphs added.

@broadblues

It is better to send me your email to send you the scout and fonts directory output, as it is really long and I don't want to flood the thread with long pages if that's ok.

Well, at least include greek characters so that I can be able to translate this thing.

Amistore does not show PPaint in the Graphics section.

Edit: Watched them in the Win7 to see many other proggies so that part isn't ready yet maybe.

Maybe need another look with OS4 when dowloaded the app.

By the way, can You watch and edit DeluxePaint animations as can't remember. Printing then comes again.. From pc or LaserJet which was too complex for me lazy-One to even try.

Thanks

Well...

1. As I wrote in a previous "thread" - Sticky Panels.

2. A fix when saving a hi-res setting in PPaint - Prefs (Startup_1.set),
that does not generate an error at line 25 (PRINTSYS). Now I had to insert ; before that line...

@Phantom

Can be seen with AmiStore. I'll see if buying it after having proper time to actually use it.

Looking forward for more comments on the vs. free PPC-native 7.2 too.

Install a printer driver other than generic, even if you don't have a printer. The generic printer returns settings for gfx that PPaint doesn't believe, this may or may not be a bug in the printer driver so I haven't worked arround it yet.

@Phantom

I've check the logs you sent me, the font is the same and is being loaded from the correct place.

So I changed to greek locale and got your error.

The font version check verifies the number of characters in the font. This seems to change somehow depending on locale, more investigation needed. If this is correct behaviout, then the verification tecnique is not valid under AmigaOS4 and will need to be changed.

For the moment you can safely cancel the requester, and know that PPaint will work as normal.

@Vanhapolle

Yes the native PowerPC version of the new PPaint 7.3 is already available on AMIStore along with a separate 68k version of the new PPaint 7.3
