My OS4.1FE install seems to be working fine now. And more and more people seem to have it up and running.

So I thought it would be nice to open a thread dedicated to hints/tips/suggestions and help regarding installing and/or using OS4.1 FE.

I hope most of you think this is a good idea

So there we go.....

Here's the first question

Where do I sign up for Amistore ?

Anyone found any significant changes in features or performance boosts while using FE ?

Not specific tips unless somebody has a specific question, but I will mention that I like a lot of old creative apps and have had mostly success and couple of failures (so far) at getting them going under FE.

My favorite Amiga programs ever are LightWave Layout and Modeler and with all the old tricks (a number of screenmode promotions, planar on rtg screens set in GUI prefs, etc.) these are working under FE on my X1000. VistaPro and MakePath are working. Scenery Animator is working (although as always it does not want to redraw unless you nudge it).

ArtEffect is fine, but as always be sure to get rid of any old PPC filters because only the 68K ones work on our PPC. Ironic, isn't it? Heh. Photogenics and FXPaint and ImageFX are working just dandy for me. Audio Evolution and HD-Rec are fine. So is BarsNPipes but that is now OS4 friendly thanks to Lyle so not really in same category as the older stuff that is not maintained in any way.

The last released version of Imagine works, although as before I cannot get wireframe animation preview working. (Similarly, the same feaure in LightWave Layout only work in Fakenative display mode.)

Bad news is that ADPro crashes on start no matter what I do in FE. Previously, after much tweaking with mode promotions and swapping and or whacking of incompatible modules (thanks number6!), this worked just fine un Update 6 with the one exception of being incompativle with DOpus5.

Also, I have not yet been able to run Perfect Paint on FE. Personal Paint, of course, is now native (thanks, Andy!).

Hi. Yes we processed all pre orders placed on 18th - 22nd December with first batch. Second batch for customers who placed order later. We got our CDs much later from Hyperion's distributor so that delayed the process unfortunately.

PMail me with your order number. Thanks

@mbrantley

Noticed any diference with previous released ?? Performance wise or compatibility ?

I noticed that in Odyssey and Simplemail when I use the right mouse key for the popup menu and move it over one of the menu options, the menu items do NOT light up (that is you cant see what you are selecting)

Also the bottom part of the (mui) windows are not colored like the top one when active....

Btw: I cant find any new options or stuff..... must be me overlooking them ? Also graphics dont seem faster at first glance (radeon 4650)

btw, wasnt there supposed to be image.pictue preview in WB ? How do I activate that ?

Have not had any crashes so far. Sound seems to work better, also AmigaAmp seems more stable...

If you look at the free RAM on my system it seems to be using 0.5GB which is a lot but since there's been changes to how RAM functions I wonder if what happens on a system with say 128MB or 256MB RAM (the classics for example)? Will it be useing the SWAP-partition like crazy or...?

What's the reason for it to use that much RAM now compared to earlier? Will those A1 users with say 512MB RAM have a good experience?

Also the glich with popup-menues in MUI-programs happens here too.

Regarding faster gfx it is kind of hard to tell but overall it feels faster, yes. Tried Quake 2 and it was a lot faster but I noticed that it studdered in a few places. When you switch to workbench it pauses the game and that is great :) . Other games like Decent Freespace 2 was just as slow as before that, I haven't had much time trying other games using Warp3D.

I tried M.A.C.E demo and with update 6 I could only play it with "LOW" settings to get an acceptable framerate but now it's ok with medium settings.

In Odyssey I get a weird green... ehm... something showing up for a second every now and then and just did as I was typing. A very small glich that isn't anoying it just shouldn't be there :) .

Then I used gfxbench2d and I got better results with 1920x1080 at 32-bit than with 1280x1024 at 32-bit. That was kind of unexpected.

Overall it feels stable and nicer to use. Kickstart seems to load a bit faster and I'm not sure but does the fonts look better in Odyssey? Sometimes there are so many positive things going on that you might imagine improvements where there are none :P . Or maybe that's just me :) .

EDIT: Correction, when just booted it doesn't use 0.5GB RAM it does however use up lots of RAM quickly.

@hotrod

This morning I notoriced those MUI glitches are gone (menu and borders)

Odysssey takes a long time to load fonts, every time I start it. I know it should be doing that only the first time, so anyone know what I did wrong. (it is just the same install I already had, nothing changed)

I noticed some changes in menu's. Some options added and there are some images in front of some options in the popupmenu.

You can send to paypal money from your bank account, takes a couple of days if you dont use creditcardnumber. There is information on how to fund it, where to send, etc. Go check paypal :)

@Metalheart

MUI version you're using? Latest is R5 and can be downloaded using AmiUpdate or from here: http://muidev.de/blog/mui4-2014r5

About Odyssey font issue:
Do you have downloaded/installed the webfonts package? Use the script that comes with Odyssey "DownloadWebFonts" to download/install 'em.
Or maybe you can try tondelete the font-cache file Odyssey creates upon starting (IIRC in "resources/fontconfig/" drawer).

@Metalheart

What jabirulo wrote. I copied those fonts from my system backup-partition, renamed font.conf (I think it's called) and ran Odyssey again and it's been working fine ever since.

@Creol's

My machine is an A1 G4 XE, Radeon 9250, 1GB RAM. Kicko got an X1000 and Metalheart got a Sam 460.
