@Nicsoft

it looks that way. i'm not able to reach the server, either.

edit: it appears to be a DNS issue. the server is reachable if i use http://update.hyperion-entertainment.biz instead.

@zzd10h

the marketing head-honcho decided to go with 'z13' for the new machine. i wanted z360 given that there's virtually nothing in the CEC (other than some of the IO hub cards and our legacy IO cage) that carried forward from previous designs. seriously: new DCAs, new coupling cards, new crypto, totally new processor book design, new core design, new L3, new L4, native PCI-e on-die. heck, even millicode, i390 code, bootstrap, SE code, CFCC, etc., etc. it's all new. it's as radical a departure for us as the z900 was back in 2000.

the announce was yesterday, and it was huge. you might be interested in the design overview video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErZRSQoTFXw). i'm in that one.

@thread

sorry for going off-topic.

@eliyahu

I have never seen the ancestor, the s360 but, true to rebegin the cycle was a fun idea !

But for us, single z/OS sysprogs, it will be easier to say z13 (after z9-z10-z11-z12)

The company, where I work, acquired 2 z12 at beginning of 2014, therefore for us, it will be the z14 (I hope that we will keep z/OS for a lot of next years!)

Watching your video "Processor Nest Bring Up Lead" Eliyahu...

PS : IBM website is not really Odyssey compliant, hopefully that SMTube works

edit : impressive the zServer crash tests. If your customer knowns that their very very very precious servers were moved like that

[/off topic]

Yeah, I like that .

And looking forward to the z3090 in the future, in reminiscence of "my PC", as I used to refer to it back in the late eighties when colleagues started to get those new-fangled DOS or Windows 3 machines on their desks, and I managed quite well writing docs and specifications on the mainframe in DCF and VS/Script under TSO .

Best regards,

Niels

@nbache

Yeah !

I never worked on these 3090 systems too, I began with the 9672 (OS/390 v2r4).

But I agree with you, that the better editor to write doc is TSO/ISPF (Notepad, vi, emacs, etc... are functionalitys far away)

Sorry NicSoft, the Dinosaurs (on an OS older than Amiga but still really alive), stolen your thread

Well, I can live with that!

But, as I wrote in an earlier thread. Has anyone had problems installing Jack on OS 4.1 FE..?
(I can't get it installed/running, as it did on update 6)

@Nicsoft

No problem installing Jack here. Downloaded the latest one from OS4 Depot and installed first time.

I wonder if it is some issue with AmiUpdate. Everytime I run it now it complains there is no internet connection. And this is after a browse on AW.net so it certainly is there.

If I nudge it a bit it tends to pick up the network.

After DNS propagation it should work.

@Dragster

not sure why the DNS records still aren't correct, but i'll add two things here:

1. there haven't been any updates in the past two weeks
2. you can point amiupdate to http://update.hyperion-entertainment.biz/ instead; that works fine

Thanks for the reply...right.. there haven't been many updates lately but since there are fixed versions of buggy programs that didn't make it to the pressed OS4.1FE CD..(according to some beta testers on hyperion's forums) I'm hoping they release such updates soon... for example: battclock.resource.kmod for Pegasos II, Partition Wizard, WBStartup.. just to name a few...

Cheers,

Dragster.

Edit: Fixed typo

@all

I thought this was supposed to have fixed.

I have just finally managed to get OS4.1 FE installed and my internet up and running but am unable to scan for updates.

If I set the server to www.update.amigaos.net I get ringhio telling me the connection to the site failed.

If I set the server too update.amigaos.net I get a logon requester asking for a username and password and when I leave both boxes empty and click connect it hasn't done a scan.

I am aware that updates are available but at present AmiUpdate just can't access them.

Any ideas?
