| HI all
The clock on my X1000 remembers the time from when I last pressed Save the the Time prefs, but after turning off and coming back to the machine later, it starts counting the time from when I saved it - in other words the clock doesn't keep ticking when the machine is off.
I have to fetch it from an internet clock at boot time.
Can anyone suggest why the clock doesn't tick when the machine is off? On-board battery maybe?
Thanks! |

Probably the battery...it's not hard to change it on the X1000.
Funny so many people have problems with drained batteries...i never had, not even with the XE (and that one was called a battery eater) |

Yeah, I never had problems with batteries either. Not on Amiga500/1200, not on A1-XE (changed it once in 9 years), and not in the X1000. But then I always use the machines. They never stayed unplugged, and were used pretty much everyday, usually on 24/7.
Might be different when the machine is unplugged long times (no 5VSB from the PSU) and only powered up occasionally... _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

Could well be then - I use it in spurts, where I'll use it daily for a few months, then there will be a couple of months when it doesn't go on so often. I'll try replacing the battery.
Cheers! |

My A1 is turned off during that day and most of the night for that matter and the battery keeps well for a few years or more before playing. However, been a while since the X1K booted up so will need to check that. |

| Mind you, if it is remembering the time from 0020 on the 18 january each time I boot, then it would seem there is some power there to remember the time.
Still, devices short on power do weird things, so I will give it a try anyway! It might help with the other problem it has, which is that it won't reset or turn off by the buttons at the top of the case any more.

It's nothing to do with your battery. just add the following lines to your s:network-startup:-
date server pool.ntp.org port 123 >nil: setclock save
Edit: more info...
NG Amigas have two clocks, a hardware clock and a software clock, during boot the hardware clock is used to set the software clock. modern clock chips don't seem to be as accurate as the ones in classics. having setclock save in network-startup will save the current software clock to the hardware clock which is what all modern OS's do. Hance the modern cheaper inaccurate clock chips. Last edited by Severin on 24-Jan-2015 at 04:46 PM.

Thanks, I'm already doing that, but the hardware RTC should still work For whatever reason the network doesn't always pick up the time which is where it gets a bit annoying.
When I run "setclock save" it doesn't increment the clock whislt the machine is switched off, which is the weird part. |

Nick, that can't be right. His clock is not running slow or fast, it isn't running at all when the power is off. Hence it must be a hardware problem and the battery is the most likely, followed by corrosion on the contacts.

Yeas I agree but I stick the time / setclock in every thread I can, it's amazing how many people don't have it. _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)
