Which are the main/best progams available on OS4.1 that take advantage of Qt (apart from SMTube)? _________________

It is interesting to see that Lightwave 3D uses QT. I wonder if Lightwave 3D could be ported back to the Amiga and Amiga like systems......

| @scabit Maybe technically possible. But Newtek will give a "put some dirty word here" about us : )
Except you visit them with a coffer full of money. A lot of money.

Good news, i presume that the OS4 source will e used for the port (to avoid the usual amiga-method of rewriting the wheel with tons of forks) and then any eventual modifications/improvements will be shared (and merged) in the current Qt Amiga repository right ? _________________ BACK FOR THE FUTURE

| @samo79 i doubt that because we are talking about qt 5 and amigaos4 has become an alien. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! Appstore - AmiWallet - VAN lossless video codec - AMC Amiga media Center -KrypUnite - LibertyNet - MinX - amigaNX |

as phoenixconsole wrote it seems to be complicated to support AOS4.X and still support AROS/MorphOS. And Bszili has written that he does not want to come in conflict with the maintainer of Qt 4 on AmigaOS. |

Morphos port is already mentioned in P2P bounty description btw.
Is there an interested developer? Knowing that might elicit some confidence and support.
I guess it will be under some open source license, so OS4-centric developers can at some stage make necessary changes and maintain a fork. _________________ Troll - n., A disenfranchised former potential customer who remains interested enough to stay informed and express critical opinions. opp., the vast majority who voted silently with their feet. |

A lot has changed between Qt 4.7 and 4.8, which applies to Qt 5.x too. This combined with OS4-isms, like library interfaces, P96, sobjs, etc. make it hard reuse code from the OS4 port. Merging with the current OS4 Qt repo would be very impractical for the aforementioned reasons. _________________ This is just like television, only you can see much further. |

I asked you in aros-exec if Amiga OS port is possible and obviously I expressed bad because you replied about OS4 and i was asking about OS3.x Yes it will be slow on 68k machines but maybe on future fpga accelerator and on uae could be useful. _________________ No PowerPC, No Fun Make Amiga Great Again |

| @Fransexy Olaf is working on a AROS Vision version for the Apollo FPGA card. This way 68k will benefit anyway. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! Appstore - AmiWallet - VAN lossless video codec - AMC Amiga media Center -KrypUnite - LibertyNet - MinX - amigaNX |

Ah, okay. An OS3 port wouldn't be feasible due to the outdated toolchain and limited SDK, but m86k AROS is part of the deal. _________________ This is just like television, only you can see much further. |

I aksed for OS4 ported progs already, because I thought that it would be easier to get them over to AROS/MorphOS, after the successfull completion of the bounty. Apart from SMTube, I really can't find anything more useful than that. However, since BSzilli, stated otherwise, he rendered my question invalid :)
Still, from the link you posted, I doubt that we will see any other useful application being ported aftewrads. For example, will it possible to port KOffice Qt since we lack a complete office suite? I very much doubt it, given the workload it needs (not just some Qt dependencies). Honestly I don't see that much of a benefit from other small/freeware progs that the list contained.
Anyway, not wanting to be a show stoper :P But imho, it would be much nicer to clarify on the bounty which programms we might be getting on AROS/MorphOS once Qt 5.x runs on them. _________________

| @Cool_amigaN Look i asked bszilli quite often about Ports and qt and Python where Show stoppers. So for me there are plenty of Reasons and none of them have to do with amigaos4. What if we just go the list down except those KDE things.
More interesting for me are cad, movie editing and simulation tools. But everyone has his own hobbies : )
Qt and python are a must have to get even simple tools over to aros.

| so almost none of these tons of quick qt ports that os4 depot has been drowned with, is of any practical use? well i have had my doubts if this pays off. |

| @wawa Again... what has AmigaOS4 to do with this? I don't know what qt-apps exists for it.
I am interested in available QT based applications from Linux, Windows, OS X and even Heiku world.
Example: http://qt-apps.org
Makes more sense to look at the latest sources than in a older thing ported to OS4. Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 28-Jan-2015 at 06:16 PM.

Making a classical library interface instead of using SOBjs would ne nice and indeed it was also an Alfkil's target since day one (along with a port of Qt5 too), however he also considered such effort as very difficult to implement, however if someone can do the magic then let's do it !
Maybe such new eventual code might be backported to OS4 too, no ?
Also i don't see the reason why most of the OS4 code cannot be "recycled" in an eventual port to AROS or MOS, beside some differences here and there such systems still very similar in many areas and a lot of work were done already into the current OS4 port in order to adapt this "alien" framework to AmigaOS: just think about menus, letterally tons of graphical glitch, windows allineation, stability and so so on.

Merging with the current OS4 Qt repo would be very impractical for the aforementioned reasons. |
I never said it will be easy of course, i just say that all efforts should be done in order to try to use a common solution instead of the usual crappy fork, atleast a single repository when code might be shared between the various platforms for the benefits of the whole community.
This is the only way to avoid the usual "only Amiga" nonsense of duplication of the work, to avoid to write 10 times the same code but with tons of incompatibility in between etc_________________ BACK FOR THE FUTURE
