Hi all

Enjoying using Amikit/uae combination on my HP laptop. Was just wondering what are the best screen mode setting to use for a clean crisp picture. When going from 800 x 600 desktop to a native game like banshee or pinball illusions it all seems very blocky im sure amiga gfx was never this bad im sure there must be a way to get a clear none pixalated display?

@g01df1sh

How big is native resoĺution of your laptop? Eg. with 1280x800, every pixel of 320x200 Amiga resolution is 4x. Go to WinUAE--Filter settings and choose filter you like most. Me, I like pixelated GFX.

Probably you simply miss the good old scanlines? Like in this picture:

Check out UAEs display / filter options for scanline related stuff.

My Native laptop screen res is 1280 x 768

Im running amikit/uae desktop in 800 x 600

I will look at the filter options do these require more cpu power?

Asuming that your notebook is not antique and compared to the actual emulation task and considering that the (rather simple) scanline filter logic is even running on the GPU for sure:
I strongly doubt that you can measure any performance difference.

Just curious, but why are you running an 800x600 desktop if your native res is 1280x768?
Doesn't non aspect correct screenmodes drive you crazy?
Actually a pretty good res. for amiga emulation. It matches exactly 4x3 native amiga pal res., or 3x3 native if you want a non-stretcho-vision 4:3 screenmode (320 by 4 and 3 respectively). Granted you lose any overscan vertically, but for a notebook it's a pretty good res. (in my opinion of course).

While I enjoy the picture quality of a more modern screen vs. old crts, the inflexibility of the display annoys me. Not such an issue with higher resolution screens, where you have more options to get something fullscreen (or close to) and ratio exact, but I use my i5 laptop a fair bit too, which has a 16:10 screen, and fairly low res too. Has HDMI and vga out, but I already have better desktop systems, with better displays, so if Im sitting at a desk, I'll use them.

Anyway, LCD display rant aside, I seem to recall that the filters can even give a bit of a performance increase, rather than a penalty. Settings need to be correct, but if I recall correctly, it can help a little.

@fishy_fis

Hi All

Thanks for all the tips. Should I change the desktop res on amikit/uae to my laptops native 1280x768 or keep it at 800x600?
