Does the X1000 have standard audio jack output or does it allow the use of USB based speakers?

Thanks!

jb

@bladerunner1963

The X1000 (HDAudio driver) should also support S/PDIF optical output.

Here is a picture of the X1000 rear ports showing the 7.1 audio sockets and SPDIF:

@amigakit

Thanks.
The S/PDIF must be the 1st from left (not well visible), or?

@bladerunner1963

Your question is well answered, but I'll add a few details.

The X1000 internal sound provides stereo headphones from the front of the case, stereo or 7.1 (8 channel) audio from the rear of the case, and also S/PDIF optical output at the rear of the case.
Unline most HDAudio implementations, we also support all of the above, all active at the same time. Plugging in the headphones does not "cut off" the speakers, though you can manually select any one of the three outputs (front, rear, S/PDIF). I suspect most people leave the output selector on "ALL", I know I do.

Further note: There are no "hard standards" for S/PDIF data rates.. many receivers will only work with a limited range of sample rates. Also, our digital out supports LPCM only. while this is far and away the most common format, if your speakers require some brand specific format it may not work.

Finally, on to the inputs. We support Line in (rear, blue), Mic in (rear, pink), Mic in (front), and CD In (header on the board). You can select any of those as the input to AHI, for recording or sampling.

If you purchase the "NemoSound" program from AmiStore, you get a second input selector for listening "live" to any of those inputs.. And that selector is completely separate from AHI. You can have AHI recording from the rear microphone while you are listening to audio from the rear line input at the same time, all the controls are completely independent. The complete separation makes it easy to use your X1000 speakers with second computer at the same time, or just listening to an MP3 player. Whether or not that is useful to you is a personal thing.

FInally, you asked about USB. There is not currently a USB audio driver for AmigaOS. There have been occasional rumors of some sort of early prototype program, and one X1000 owner has been digitizing his vinyl collection with a USB turntable, but I made sure nobody can prove a thing. :)

There is a fair chance of getting USB audio support at some future time, but I advise you not to wait, because "some time in the future" might take longer than you expect. Somewhere between "more than two weeks" and "A LOT more than two weeks".

I hope the extra details helped answer your questions.

@lylehaze

Thanks for the info. The sound system in the X1000 is quite sophisticated. Looking forward to messing around with it.

@bladerunner1963

Just a quick update. Connected a tube based Decco speaker system using S/PDIF. Beautiful warm sound.

Gonna grab that Nemo tool and have some fun!

@bladerunner1963

Cool

And thanks again to the people behind the HDAudio driver.
