@strim

i was under impression that 5 and 3 volt card slots are oppositely oriented? so except the sonnets were universal, which they apparently are not, i wonder if they may really require both voltages?

Pin 10, side A, the pin can be 5 VDC or 3.3VDC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conventional_PCI

the keying in PCI card should prevent a PCI 5VDC to be plugged into a 3.3VDC PCI slot, if the keying is missing or its possible to connect a none combo card into the wrong PCI slot, the keying is missing, it can burn.
PIN 12, 13 missing on 3.3 card.

PIN 50, 51 missing on 5 VDC card.

Quote:
And Sonnet seems to accept both 5V and 3.3V signalling. 3.3V rail is probably required to power the CPU and/or MPC107.

So its combo card, or should be a combo card. I that case is should be problem as you say.

This pin is used by the card to detect signalling levels. It's not a power pin.

@wawa

That's probably the case (I don't have any 3.3V-only machine).

@retro

I'm not sure about Kronos' opinion, but to me the board looks too slow to be of much help.

BUT, a several have pointed out here, a faster PCI board could be designed.
Has anyone thought to simply ask Sonnet about the board?

That actually worked for me with IBM when the Cell BE was current.

Hmmm. I've pulled out my A4000T with mediator, CSPPC, Cyber vision PPC and even a Picasso IV. I may put this bad boy up for sale if this helps to sell it!

What are the odds of OS4.1 being made to work with the Sonnet cards?

So you want to plug a medicore 15 years old PPC-CPU-board into a crappy 10 years old PPC-mobo so you can somehow magicly run 15 years old halfarsed ports of 20 years old games that weren't all that good to start with ???

I am amazed how you guys can derail any thread into discussion about nothing, just for the sake of argument.

What argument?
Just curious why somehow wants to work so hard for only a slight improvement in performance, when the hardware they are working with is made with unobtainium.

@iggy

I'm not entirely certain if it's the WORST Amiga-related idea of 2015, but I would nominate it, that's for sure.

Edit: I would put it on about the same level as "put a windmill on top of your electric car to charge the batteries while you drive", just to put it into perspective.

Some of the classic OS4 testers have the 500Mhz G3 384MB sonnet crescendo 7200 varient.
Myself (A1200 TX), HammerD (A4000(T))) to name a few.
I would love to put it to some use as its been gathering dust in a box for years.
Great looking project.

@retro

Most likely not as it depends on Elbox's specific pci libary for now. I asked the same thing about putting it into an Amithlon system, but again, the pci library dependency was an issue.

SonnetAmiga is an open project. Anyone having the hardware is welcome to join the testing. Both source and binary builds are publicly available.

@strim

I am also interested. So can anyone please confirm:

1. What voltage type pci slot is needed?
2. In which meiator can we find such a pci lot? I am interested for Amiga 1200 system.

Thanks.

@Morphix

1. 5V with 3.3V aux power lines.
2. Mediator 3000Di and 1200TX. Apparently the newly announced Mediator 4000Di 3V also should work, though no one tested that yet.

Note that 1200TX is not officially supported by SonnetAmiga (yet). Work on it is still in progress, currently it crashes more often than not.

I have the Sonnet and an A4000D and A4000T with CS PPC's but my Mediators are older, I would need to buy the new one and hope it works.
