Hi,

In the Dutch or Northern Germany region I'm looking for somebody with a working A1 or MicroA1.

My aim is to come over with the harddisk of my dead MicroA1 and salvage the contents of a number of partitions. There's a lot of photographs, short video's and, what's more, programming projects on it, which I am unable to get to. The HD is of the ancient PATA type and most partitions use XJFS for a filesystem. As also the OS in all its varieties is onboard, it will most probably boot by itself.

Over time I have been asked questions about some of my projects and got suggestions for new features about some of them, but currently I am in no position to apply any form of maintenence. My aim is to release the projects into the public domain. Due to the extremely high degree of modularity, the curious organisational structure, the mutual interwovenness of the projects and the ease of switching from GCC to VBCC (and/or DICE for that matter...) by a simple global menu setting, it is not an easy task to release the projects seperately, so my entire developement area including all pending projects will be packed into 1 archive, together with an accompanying description, which I have yet to write, and a truckload of blessings and 'good-luck-with-it' s. The archive will then be published on OS4Depot for everyone to play with.

Due to a lot of unforseen changes of course (hors d'euvre) in life I will not be working on these project any time soon, read: years rather then months.

So if you own or know one such computer in The Netherlands or in Northern Germany please give me a ring. I live in Groningen, Netherlands and consider a radius of some 150 - 200 km's (100 - 125 mls) being doable, although these figures are not chisseled in granite.

Please let me know.

Regards
Tjitte de Wolff a.k.a. OldFart

@imagodespira

Thanks for the suggestion, but as it is, I do not have an account there and I have little lust in creating yet another account somewhere for one single issue. If you have an account there feel free to repost or link it at that site.

People can reach me regarding this subject at tjittedewolff (at) gmail dot com.

@OldFart

Any computer with a ATA interface will do, be it:

A1-X1000
Sam440/460 with a usb-PATA enclosure adaptor.
Any pc running winuae and AmigaOS4.1FE with either internal PATA controller or the above usb-PATA enclosure.

Hope it helps you find someone faster this way.

@OldFart

I am no OS4 User, but I think it should be possible to read an Image of your Harddisk with any Linux Live-CD. (using dd)

You could (theoretically) write this Image to an USB-Harddisk and use this with any othe OS4 Machine, or even WinUAE with OS4 support.

Hmmmm. That is probably a way to do it too.

Some years ago I transferred 23 ancient SCSI HDDs over to my PC using WinUAE, several of them didn't work and some even had a empty RDB block so that all the partitions was missing. I managed to fix all the bad drives and backed up everything with the help of a PCI SCSI card and WinUAE, RDB recovery and quarterback or disksalv I think.

Some of them are full-height 5.25" drives and nowadays it is possible to fit all of it on a microSD card.

@OldFart

I'm sure you've told the story somewhere but what happened to your A1?

Are you unable or unwilling to purchase a new or used OS4 machine?

What other machines you have should be able to read the drive through emulation as suggested.
