Is there any guide for creating own themes for AmigaOS4?
What application may I use? PPaint doesn´t seem to be right choice (no transparent backgrounds)...

Note for me: Gimp (even version for AmiCygnix) is able to save images/gadgets with transparent background.

Ehhh... ImageFX is able to save alphachannel. And ImageFX is a native Amiga sw, however no one seems to be use it on Amiga.

Edit:
@ribdevil: You beat me :)

@Lazi and ribdevil

Thanks for info. I never used ImageFX. PPaint + Gimp will do all work for me.

FxPaint and photogenics too, but not sure if it works on OS4 however.

@Hillbillylitre

Photogenics should work:

Same for FxPaint:

(I had forgotten intuitionbase. Great resource!!!!!!!!)

Tried, I didn´t imagined how to make transparent background... In Gimp, it is simple and obvious, so I will stay with it.

@pavlor

I'll just throw SketchBlock into the list of native OS4 software available for editing themes, support alpha channles 32bit images etc. It's aheck of a lot faster than GIMP!

I alternate between ImageFX and SB for most gfx, depending on what I need, 90% of things I now do in SB.

What about a combination of Andy Broad's excellent Sketch Block and PPaint for the icon pixel work?

Do you mean the scroller arrows and the like?

If so yes, you need to replace (in your new theme directory) the coresponding image.

One approach might be to copy all of the files in

SYS:Prefs/Presets/Default/Common/Bitmaps/Subtle

to anew location, the update the GUI Prefs styles to us this.

Then experiment with replaceing the individual images.

eg

SYS:Prefs/Presets/Default/Common/Bitmaps/Subtle/GArrowDown/Default

If you mean images in toolbars etc then you would have to replace AISS images, and given how many there are, if you take that task on, see you in ten years time

Yes. Thanks for help!

About SketchBlock, still learning how to use it (powerful application it is!). In Gimp, it was matter of seconds (select background colour and erase it).

Bitmaps/frames

Are there other than Button, PropContainer or PropKnob?

Eg. textfields etc.

Very similar if not identical in sketchblock, select background colour and Menu->Layers->Colour To Alpha.

Much as GIMPS colour to alpha tool that will sometimes make certain forground colours partially transparent,

You can also flood or colour select the background, use Menu->Edit->invert Selection and then Menu->Layers->Selection To Alpha

Everything there is, is in that directory I refered to earlier in terms of bitmaps, other effects like gradient fils and such can be controlled from GUI prefs.

@broadblues

Thanks again, as I wrote, I´m still learning (slowly...).

There is not even frames directory (of course: default theme doesn´t use button or other custom frame). Look eg. in SilverGreen theme directory Bitmaps/frames - frames for scrollers and scroller containers. My question is: Are there other frames (eg for "String look", "Display look" as in GUI/Gadgets/Frames)?
