Is this media player possible?

I use Plex to host all my movies etc on 1 PC and then stream them to the other computers, AppleTV, etc in the house over my home network.

https://plex.tv/

I tried to play a movie using Odyssey on to my A1. It logs in to my network and sees all the streams available, but when I try to play anything, I get an error message that the browser does not support streaming. (I believe it uses flash).

My understanding is that the host PC that has the files does some of the decoding and I was wondering if this would take some of the strain off the Amiga to play movies.

There is a standalone player for multiple platforms, is this something that could be ported? I think this is the correct open source link.

https://github.com/plexinc/plex-home-theater-public

I am likely out of my depth of understanding with this, but I thought I would post anyway to see what other people think

It actually doesn't seem unlikely, but since the server software isn't free, a developer would need a bit of an incentive to work on the client side

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

@olegil

It was my understanding a client could be created from the free open sources without a need to create a server.

@busytech

Yes, but why port it if you can't use it yourself? So if you want it, you either need to port it by yourself, or finance a port by paying someone else to do it. Unless a developer actually wants it for himself, in which case you might get it for free.
