Installation of Radeon HD Southern Islands and 3D VisionTek HD 7750 card

I have received my Vision Tek Radeon 3D Hd 7750 card (slim profile) and downloaded the Radeon HD Southern Island drivers.

Could someone tell me in which order I need to prepare my system and install the card?

I understand that I need to install the SI drivers first, but my doubt is if that would affect the use of my SAM460ex while I find the time to do the actual installation of the card?

I will have a computer technician at a shop nearby doing the card installation, as I still don't feel comfortable messing around with the hardware. I will do this this Friday.

Please advise.

@WeiXing3D

The 3D drivers can be installed before or after the card is fitted.

I'm almost sure that I read somewhere that the recommendation was to install the drivers first, before the physical installation of the graphic card.

@WeiXing3D

It does not matter if you install the Warp3D drivers before or after the hardware installation. Just make sure you reset the computer once you install them.

@WeiXing3D

It's only important that you have the relevant 2D driver installed first, for obvious reasons.

@amigakit

How can I know if I am running the latest RadeonHD drivers available for my SAM460ex, before I install RadeonHD Southern Islands? Is there any place to check for this?

I have downloaded and installed the update available for me at a-eon.biz secured site (RadeonHD.lha and RadeonHD.chip or RadeonHD-1.7 iso). Anything else?

I'd like to have my gfx card installed tomorrow, but need to make sure everything is OK before that.

@WeiXing3D

If you have installed the version available at the A-EON site you have the latest version. If want to confirm it open a shell window and type "version RadeonHD.chip".

@WeiXing3D

Open a CLI/Shell and type:
version radeonhd.chip full

You should get something like:
RadeonHD.chip 2.10 ( 3-05-2015)

That's the version you are running (being loaded by kicklayout).

@jabirulo

I got RADEONHD.chip 1.7 (05/03/2015).

Should I need to download 2.10? It's another US$60+

@WeiXing3D

You can get latest v2.10 at greatly reduced rate as you already own v1.7. You will see discount when you add it to your shopping cart in AMIStore.

That's a great relief. This upgrade is turning to be a money pitfall.

V2 offers faster video playback (eg. in MPlayer). Both 1.x and 2.x work with Warp3D.

UPDATE:

1. I downloaded and installed the radeonhd.chip 2.10; verified using shellc ommand.
2. Purchased, downloaded and installed Warp3D Southern Islands. I used the fully autoamted installation option. Then rebooted.

So how do I know the drivers were installed correctly?

My SAM460ex boots up fine and seems to be working fine.

Can you use resolutions higher than 1024x768?
Do compositing effects (transparency/shadows) work?
Same for games using Warp3D (eg. glQuake/2/3)?

If answers to these questions are YES, all is installed as it should be.

@pavlor

Thank you for the answer, but please remember that I haven't yet physically installed the gfx card itself. And BTW, I was already using 1920 x 1080 ARGB32 with my HD monitor

So any other way to test?

@WeiXing3D

Look at post 8, 9 and 10 above.

You should see V2.10 now reported as the version number.

I Trevor. Good to see you around.

Yes, I can see that radeonhd.chip now shows 2.10, but how do I know that RadeonHD Southern Island got installed correctly,considering that I haven't yet installed the new gfx card (3D HD7750)?

You're using the latest RadeonHD.chip driver, which supports the Southern Islands series (incl. HD 7750 cards). That's all that you need.

@Hans

Thank you for the clarification.

Well, after installing Warp3D Southern Islands i got a message saying that installation was complete, but after swaping the old Gygabyte GV-4650C-GI, with my new Vision Tek HD 7750 PCIE 1GB GDDR5 SFF, all I get is a black screen.

Am I missing something? Did I forget to do something prior to swapping cards?
