Reminder: Enhanced new A1200 cases (Kickstarter)

I would just like to remind everyone of the Kickstarter project for a new A1200 case which is a replacement for the original one, but includes also mounting holes and pre-cut lines on the inner side for varoius expansions.

The case is not only suitable for the original A1200 mainboard, but also for Individual Computer's "Amiga Reloaded", the Raspberry Pi (which can then utilize the A1200 keyboard) and the FPGA board MiST.

Since the original announcement, there have been lots of updates, and there is also a 20 Euro pledge option for those who are not able or in need to buy a new case.

More than half of the needed amount has been collected, but there are only four days left. Given all the work that has been invested by Philippe into this project, it would be a real pity if it would fail due to lack of funding.

Not to mention that if the Amiga community is too small already now for funding this, there won't be enough users for it in future either.

(PS: People not owning a credit card for pledging at Kickstarter might consider a "virtual prepaid credit card".)

Backed, if it's successful I will be on the look out for a tired A1200 for the build. Although this case with an Amiga reloaded, fast FPGA accelerator and new keyboard would be cool.

@Senex

It was NOT smart to start the bounty during the summer holidays. I hope they make it.
I do not have a Amiga 1200 so won't be donating, but best of luck.

@dan.hutch

Well there is also the possibility of using the Amiga Reloaded from Individual Computers when that is available.

I would be interested in that as a replacement for an ageing A1200 motherboard - much like the C64 Reloaded board Jens made, only I missed out on that one hitting the store.

I see it comes without CPU, interesting choice.
Its logical, as there many accelerator card, that people own.

@Senex

Unless Donald Trump pitches in, it doesn't look like the pledge will be met by the 20th. Which is too bad since I pledged 185 Euro for two cases...

@damocles

Thanks for the bump.

Im a bit unsure which way Im going with this

I just read this;

http://wiki.icomp.de/wiki/Amiga_reloaded

and its quite intresting. A brand new A1200 with some modern tweaks is tempting.
Espesially in a mint condition casing.

I will defintly pay attention to how this kickstarter+Induvidual Computers progress.
As a sidenote, it would probarly be a good idea for strong supporters of this kickstarter
to remind people on forums like AW, Aorg, lemon, EAB etc every now and then.
It was just a random bump of Tower 57 kickstarter thread that made me aware of it.
Same goes for Jeroen Tel.

So, if you REALLY want this kickstarter to succeed, reminding people at reasonable intervals is probarly a good idea (not so often that it becomes "annoying"),

@damocles

A case some A1200 users replaced with a tower a lot of them might be parked in some garages.

This case will come without keyboard, so it's hardly an option for people who want to rebuild an A1200.

Maybe it would be easier if they had rebuild the A1000 case, as long as they have connectors for USB.

Problem is the yellowing effect and I'm sure there are those with A1200 that would like to have a brand new case for their baby.

Unless they can get ahold of a A1200 keyboard.

It's clearly not for everyone since it's targeting the retro computer folks. Nice thing is, excluding the keyboard issue, that it's RP2 and MiST compatible.

I'm hoping that if this is successful Kickstarter, they will do another one for the keyboard.

Too bad Barry died and CUSA isnt around anymore. CUSA would have probably funded the kickstarter and released some great x86 Amiga systems in the A1200 case.

He might have done the project himself via his offer to do projects for the Amiga community. Although after his experiences with the C64X case, he was pretty gun shy about doing another mold. I'm not sure if he would have gone x86 for this A1200 case, he might have opted for ARM instead.

The kickstarter campaign has been relaunched: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/a1200housing/new-amiga-1200-cases-made-from-new-molds

Interestingly they now have a license to use the Amiga name and boing ball logo. There are also plans for a replacement A1200 keyboard and replacement key caps.

With 50 days to go, this project has reached the 50% mark.

Among Amigans there seems to be a rather amusing belief in figures of he past, one that gives them almost demi-god qualities in restrospect. Petro Tyschtschenko is a clear example, and Barry seems to be another hot candidate. In fact, Barry was just a regular business guy. Leo talked him into the idea that some serious cash could be earned from the nostalgia crowd by packing overpriced stock PC hardware in replica cases. With all due respect and piety for CUSA and the deceased, they just didn't have a clue.

I wonder if Amiga Inc are willing to license out the name for other products such as mice, keyboards and game controllers.

Right, the Amiga name license is mentioned in the podcast.

But can you state who licensed the boing ball?
