Because that is cheating emulation is OK but the real challenge is native OS no emulation or no host OS. FPGA is ok

So why using emulators like EUAE and Petunia/Trance on OS4/MorphOS? Use the real hardware for running 68K apps...

I cannot agree with you. What counts is the result, whatever solution you use for getting it.

All of them are Intel based?

I just found out about these things last week when I happened to Google "DIY laptop" out of interest. I've also discovered other things of interest on the net accidently that have existed for years. But the problem with these, that you point out, is that they are not really a DIY built laptop. Thay all have mainboards which to me goes against the point. Of course there isn't exactly a mainboard laptop standard. At least not yet I'm aware of. All we need is a barebones case. Do any companies make a shell that could be customised? With just the case, screen, KB, pad and PSU? Then we could do something!

But it was fantastic to see wifi working out the box well done to who ever did that driver.

I tested 3.9. It could see the network and IIRC I ented the password but it didn't connect. Didn't see any errors. MOS is not very forthcoming with errors or information that way. So I then just connected an ehternet-to-wifi bridge and that worked.

AFAIK the point of MOS isn't to run games in UAE. That's what a PC is for.

hi all

This is a big laptop rip out the shity x86 hardware and fit amiga motherboard lol... bit of a expensive way of getting a Amiga laptop but there are a lot of crazy amigans about lol.

http://www.geek.com/chips/dell-launches-12-pound-2-2-inch-thick-alienware-18-gaming-laptop-1631694/

not sure if it wide enough for a a1200 but a600 should fit..

So we see, the idea is to get an Amiga laptop not an amigaesque type laptop as in MorphOS as we have that and not AROS we also have that.

So again the question is can and Amiga laptop be done?

Again I also state I have a Sam440ep board waiting for the case which would best suit.

@1Mouse

Of course it can be done. You might need to unsolder the ATX power connector and any stacked IO connectors (sound/USB most likely, don't have time to do fact checking right now). They can be put on cables instead to save height.

Also, you'll need to find a laptop which can house the MB + whichever adapters you'll need (battery charging, picoPSU, LCD controller etc).

And last but not least, you'll probably need a little cooling, so a custom heat pipe plus a fan/cooler combo is needed.

We did this thought exercise a while back, here's one of my posts about it:
http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=38301&forum=33#719986

Edit: I still think I could to it in the e6500 shell, I've just so far completely failed to make the motherboard stop working. The keyboard is lacking a bunch of keys, battery gave out long time ago, case is slowly coming apart. Motherboard is solid as a brick. No wonder I can find a lot of motherboard spares on ebay but no case spares It's the best laid out laptop case I've ever seen as well. It just makes so much sense how it's been made.

@olegil

No willing to solder/unsolder chips but would be willing to let someone else with the knowledge do it as long as it could be fit.

@Mouse

the 440 has the ram pointing into space, so ddr and atx are d to be angled. seems the io shield is easier (edit: had i paid attention I would have noticed it could have ram soldered on. does yours?)
460ex is opposite. here it's io, as it uses laptop ram.

i see 3 large lots of lenovo r/t61 on ebay right now. if that would work it would be awesome. oh, btw a replacement _61 mb using minimig schematics would be very easy. a t10_2 design slightly harder. but not very hard.

@olegil

When I started thinking of putting my Sam440ep in a laptop again just a couple of days ago I also thought what about Minimig.

Not sure that has all the functionality I need though.

I think the best candidate for an Amiga laptop, will be an old P3 notebook (I have) that is a bit fatter than current ones, with a disk drive. I think that removing all the interiors there would be enough space to fit the standalone vampire when available plus the necessary connection and auxiliary hardware.

@ilbarbax

Do you have any pictures of this old P3 notebook or a link to where I can see the size and possible the specs?

Some of the old Thinkpads seem quite deep

Is it similar in size and shape to early IBM ThinkPads, they seem quite deep

@mcbone

I'm looking for a laptop that can run OS4.1, is that possible on a CD32?

Need a PPC accelerator board in there and that would take up valuable space in the case

@mcbone

Would rather have a PPC laptop running OS4.1 natively.

Not enough room for a 1200 + PPC card in a laptop
