Maybe FinalWriter 2015 will come on the market and I won't have this problem, but...

I have been using FinalWriter for many years. I reinstalled it from a backup after utterly crashing my OS4 disk, but when I click the icon, it just blinks, nothing happens, good or bad.

Just reinstalled Snoopy, hoping for some clues as to what is wrong, but I don't know how to interpret the results; I guess it takes a competent programmer. Clicking the FW icon with Snoopy running results in 99 lines of Snoopy output, including these. Do they suggest anything to anyone?

@kilaueabart

Delete FWFiles/FW.Prefs and try again. From what I remember, FinalWriter is trying to use a screenmode that's saved in FW.Prefs but is not actually available on your system. Deleting the file will cause the Screenmode selector window to pop up next time you run the program. Select the screenmode you want and when you save your settings, a new FW.Prefs file will be created that will work properly.
