Hi all!

I apologize if this is the wrong forum, but I'm still kinda new here.

If I wanted to change my background on my Amiga 4.1 FE setup (AmigaONE 500) how would I do it?

And where would I download a good driver for my ATI Radeon 5450HD? This 1024x768 is going to get old quickly. :D

Thanks in advance!

Stan

@StantheAmigaMan

Prefs/wbpattern for changing backdrop.
Prefs/screenmode for changing screenmode.

Shouldn't need to pay for a new driver just to change a screenmode (really hope I'm not mistaken there).

There is a limited driver on the AmigaOS4.1FE CD (so one could use the installer on newer RadeonHD cards) which only produce the mentioned 1024x768 resolution screenmode.
He still has to buy the full product to get access to all the resolutions (as it it an outsourced product)

It has since matured into version 2.10 and is worth every extra extra penny.
Here's some more info.

@StantheAmigaMan

You can get it through AmiStore easily.

@StantheAmigaMan

To change your workbench quickly, the preferences menu is intergrated into the Workbench's right click menu. (not the title bar!)

I suggest checking out the GUI and Workbench preferences as well, the amount of constumization you can do with AmigaOS is insane.

One I really like is to add any kind of information you want in the title bar at the top of the screen, such the the usage of virtual memory or the amount of programs running at the moment. Which you can do in the Workbench preferences under "Screen title format".

By the way, to select more than one option in the right click menu, use the middle mouse button.
The selected options will be highlighted blue.

You're using a sort of OEM trial version of the Radeon HD driver, you can get the full versions on the Amistore app
http://www.amistore.net/

There are two version as you can see, the only difference between the 20 and 40 euro version is that the latter provides more advanced video playback acceleration.

You can even get the driver on a nice DVD package here,
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1107

One tip when you're changing resolution, go to the preferences menu and into Screenmode, click the tab "monitors" and checkmark "Detect settings automatically".
I did this and I got much more screenmodes to choose from, such as higher horizantal and vertical frequencies (from 60khz to 80khz e.g.). Which looks lovely.

I really recommend checkout "WBHelp" which should be in your premade Appdock (should be a lightbulb)
It makes using AmigaOS so much more quicker and fun to use!

If you can't find it, go to your AmigaOS installation, press "right Amiga" and + (or right click "Show all") and go to S:\Arexx\WBHelp.

Hopefully this doesn't seem overwelming to you, this should all take just a second.
Have fun with your new machine.

Hmm?

S:ARexx/WBHelp perhaps?

or

REXX:WBHelp

as REXX is assign to S:ARexx

but if you want to use WBHelp just press the "Help" key with the workbench or window active
, on PC keyboards the Help key maps to ScrollLock

@broadblues

Or even sys:system/help

@StantheAmigaMan

I recommend you download and read Assist.

Run it, click B, Click Backdrop and there's the info you want...

Edit: damn typos
