Hello Amigans

Just curious what everyone uses for a display these days on their classic systems, in particular if anyone uses an Indivision AGA card and if so what monitor do you use?

Are there any shining examples of a good modern monitor that is Amiga compatible?

I have heard good things about Sony Trinitron CRT and the NEC Multiscan LCD's

The old Philips/Commodore monitors seem to still have a big following too, but I was looking for something a bit more modern.

Kind regards,
Spud.

On my A4000 I use a 1920x1080 display via Mediator/Radeon. Workbench and other programs that use at full resolution while others that require native modes are scaled via my Indivision. Both display outputs go to the same monitor: Radeon to the DVI input, Indivision to the VGA input. Toglling just means pushing a button on my monitor if both are active, or the monitor defaults to the "live" signal if only one is active.

My A2000 has a similar setup only with a Cybervision64 3D card at 1280x1024 and a Commodore SDFF card for native modes. They're both hooked up to the VGA input on an old square monitor and I switch between them using a box with an A-B dial to select the output.

I don't have a working 68k setup st the moment but my Minimig works with my 14" TV via VGA but had to switch to SCART for the 32" Hanspree TV. I think your system should be fine if you alrady have an Indivision but if not and you live in the right part of the world then use SCART.

If you're planning to buy the Monitor/TV locally then you could always ask if you can try your Amiga. I seem to recall something about an Ausie user group doing the same thing a few years back.

I use the BenQ BL912 19-inch, multi-scan, LED VGA monitor.

Very happy with that purchase,

My A1200 uses 19" TFT (1280x1024 native resolution) via plain RGB2VGA adapter. I modified DblPAL monitor driver to support 60 Hz resolution and now most OS compliant software works. Sure, I can´t play many games with this setup.

@pavlor

Well got an ancient (1998) 18" TFT that will actually sync to NTSC Interlaced better when the FF in the A3000 turned off

PAL is a bit unstable

My classic Amiga 1200 and CD32 set up share the same Acer 27 inch LED monitor as my Amigaone 500 machine. The A1200 is connected up to it via RGB scart into a HDMI converter box and then via HDMI cable into the monitor.

The CD32 is via the s-video port into Scart via the same HDMI converter box and then HDMI to the monitor.

You're a real couch potato aren't you?

I have two LCD monitors I've used that are a few years old. A BenQ and a Dell. IIRC one is 17", the other 19" with speakers. In 1280x1024. I've used them with my A4000 and PcassoIV card with built in VGA out. Games looks okay if not exact resolution. But I can't run my Workbench at native because because the mode is too high and it only does it in interlace. Setting up an Amiga graphic card was terrible at the time when you had to fiddle with all these technical parameters. And it affects me now since I know of no tool that can set it up for me.

I've also used a ViewSonic 1440x900 LCD TV over SCART with my A1200 but the display looked crap with emulated interlace and stretch marks.

@spudisgood

I use a Mitsubishi Diamondtron 19" flat-screen CRT on my A4000 via Picasso IV. Looks wonderful.

For gaming I generally use my Philips CM8833-II on my CD32.

I've tried several LCD/Plasma displays on the Amiga, and they all look like crap compared to a nice CRT imho.

Of course, I do use LCD for MorphOS on my G5 and my Windows 10 machines etc.

@Hypex

I don't watch a lot of TV funnily enough, so do not spend a lot of time on the couch.. I am definitely more of a computer chair potato

Since starting this thread I have purchased an Indivision AGA Mk II and have encountered a few tales of woe with various monitor setups

1) I bought a monitor on eBay and got sent a totally different one to the one I ordered, plus the power button was missing! So off it went back for a refund

2) I purchased second monitor a Samsung LCD, the size was 15" and unfortunately anything beyond the standard hi-res workbench greeted me with an "OUT OF RANGE" message - so this is being sent back for a refund!

I also noticed games on the LCD did not appear very good, so I think the answer is a 17" CRT... on the look out for a good one I will report back with any updates!

Kind regards,
Spud.

Hi Dan I am a big fan of your videos - particularly when you had your A1200 set up

I was wondering if you had any problems using your Indivision on the A1200, as I noticed you switched to the A4000 not long after receiving your card

I am definitely on the hunt for a good 17" CRT now at a good price, the only problem with these monitors is that most people understandably will only allow collection and not post, so getting a good example at the right price locally is the tricky part!

Kind regards,
Spud.

I use a BenQ M2700HD 27" 1920x1080 for my Peg II and the Hackintosh... AmigaOS looks great.

A 19" CRT Flat Screen Daewoo for my precious A1200!

Cheers,

Dragster.

I use an HP 2511 25" LCD monitor for all my system since it has multiple inputs.

- PC => HDMI : 1920x1080 @ 32bit
- Sam460 with OS4 => DVI : 1920x1080 @ 32 bit
- Amiga 1200/060 Tower with Mediator expansion (Voodoo 3) => VGA : 1920x1080 @16 bit

One monitor to rule them all!

@spudisgood

I use a Dell U2410 monitor for my general computing with a decent VGA switch for lots of machines. It's a lovely IPS panel that does 1920x1200 over DVI and VGA with ease, and has no problem taking the 1600x1000 output from my A1200's Voodoo-3 (that's about as high as I can push it without it being slow or too far out of spec to display). It also accepts the 15kHz native Amiga signal which is very useful for working with classics.

Before that I had a Trinitron-based 1600x1200 CRT which was gorgeous, but I couldn't justify the space it took up so replaced it with the LCD when it died. For gaming however, I use a 50" Panasonic G10 plasma panel in 4:3 mode. While it's not a CRT, it's far better for the Amiga's low resolution output than any LCD TV I've seen, and I've tried a few. I'll be very sad when my plasma dies...

@spudisgood

I know what you mean. Though I seem to spend an equal amount of time watching TV on my bed and watching my computer on a chair. I've also watched a computer on bed.

I thought an Indivision AGA, especially Mk II, would have provided a superior monitor experience.

Did you purchase new monitors on eBay? Shocking result. I wonder if the Indivision needs to be tuned for the monitor. AFAIK it's made for modern monitors so a worry if you get out of range. The PAL output is said to be lower than standard like closer to 59 Hz but I would have thought the Indivision would buffer it and redisplay at 60 Hz. As opposed to simply doubling the vertical rate. Which can cause range errors. Be good if it told you the rates it is getting.

Games may be better on a square screen (4:3) rather than wide screen (16:9) which is more common. But yes a traditional CRT is best. Perhaps not so best for your eyes these days.
