| What equipment would I need for an A4000 to use it for backing up/capturing video from older video camera (Video 8/Hi8) (or newer for that matter).
Will the captured video be "RAW" ? (highest possible quality)?
Any info on this subject would be appreciated :)
My 4000 is a stock 030 |

Hi8 is tricky as its an early digital standard but the playback is NSTC.
But, I'm not sure a toaster wouldn't be adequate. |

Sounds like 2 different goals here.
If backup is one goal, why not simply master to DVD?
Regarding capture, what is it you want to do? The recommendations might vary depending on whether you are interested in still frame captures, editing, post processing of a/v, etc.

sorry to disappoint you but, nothing worth the effort with a bare A4000/030 in PAL. _________________

hehe, ok - I'l go down the pc route then.....:)
Wasn't aware the toaster was NTSC only, but out of curiosity, what are these TBC cards that sometimes shows up with the toasters ?.
And would a Toaster be enough if it was NTSC?

Send tapes to a company which copies tapes to DVD. _________________ Sometimes we give people a lot of credit just because they’re writing nice sentences even if it isn’t adding up to much. |

TBC stand for Time Base Corrector, a device very helpful to remove dropout (small garbage on tape) and to synchronize tape based multiple sources.
If we had a PAL Toaster, would have been "perfect" for the task.
