Pagestream 5 for MorphOS is progressing and acually running. Deron got support by Frank (cyfm) and it was publically shown in Neuss (on an X5000).

@Zylesea

Ok. This is won the best news of the year for me.

I hope to hear some details about this effort.

Great news. Will those fixes pass to other systems like AmigaOS 4 or AmigaOS 3?

Amazing. It must be almost ten years since OS4 was meant to get a native port and now MorphOS will get there first. It must be easier to port to. But bugs are still bugs and must be fixed on what ever OS you port to.

Or the person porting it is only interested in supporting MorphOS. Like A-Eon with OS4 and Personal Paint, or Final Writer and AROS...

I think it's the MorphOS Team who works on that port and they have a long track record at fixing bugs so I bet it will be a solid release

At least Finalwriter is announced for all Amigaish flavours, not only AROS. For Pagestream I don't know whether other OSes than MorphOS will be supported.

It had nothing to do with OS...at the time anyway.

External modules, compiler/library issues.

Plus Deron indicated he had some issues internal to Pagestream itself to deal with.

Two things...

1) Final Writer isn't the only softwood product I have.

2) I've always said it was planned for all branches. :)

@OlafS25

I hope so. I was being pretty cynical when I wrote that, I do think supporting all platforms is the only sane option for commercial software.

@CarasGhant

Kalamatee who is doing first port is a Aros developer. So no wonder first showing it on Aros. As I understand it the other versions are done by other developers. Terminills wants to get back his money so it is in his own interest to support different platforms.

The problem is general that most developers have only limited knowledge of the other platforms, they mostly know their preferred NG platform and perhaps some experience in 3.X. But the different platforms support the APIs different so it is easy f.e. to develop something running on 3.X and 4.X but not on Aros 68k. And there are no class libraries or similar who makes it easier to support different platforms without additional efforts.

There is no hoping I've already been in talks with an AOS4 developer to do the AOS4 port. I have no firm date on the release of that port but it is planned.

Very good news, I almost gave up hope on this title =)
And since it's now in good hands I really believe there will hold a top notch quality!

I hope Pagestream will come to the other platforms too. We need to start patching up our relationships and since we can't get the three camps to join forces, having the same software for all three is the way to go.

Besides, I think friendly competition is good. It's the lack of the "friendly" part that is the problem.

@Yasu

Definitely - I'd pay a pretty penny for a native AROS version.

Cheers,
NIgel.

P.S. Terminills - looking forwards to being able to purchase the AROS verison of FinalWriter.
