| Here's the first of my tweaked, hi-def videos from the October 17-18 Amiwest Show. It's "Paul Sadlik at the Amiwest Show 2015", and he's talking about easy, quick shortcuts when using Amiga OS 4.1 Final Edition. Go to

Thanks again Robert! If you didn't do these I'd really be out of the loop.

Interesting comments about porting to x86 and AROS at the end of the video.

the usual bashing from this individual, not backed by any facts. few hundred potential aros users would equal the os4 user base, who is registered to receive system updates and software.Last edited by wawa on 26-Oct-2015 at 03:36 PM.

What I thought was interesting, based on his comments, is that it seems extremely unlikely that there will ever be an x86_64 port of AmigaOS 4.x, and it's not entirely due to technical challenges.
MorphOS, or course, is a different story.

as long as one assumes, he is actually informed enough to make any statements, which given the the track of record and the current behaviour, doesnt seem to be the case. |

Does anyone know where Paul Sadlik uploaded the script to set up the clock/time envvar?

No, but it's easy. create a script:
Lab loop setenv time `date` wait 1 skip loop back
run that from user-startup, use lformat with the date command to customize output, use 'help date' in a shell for info.
In workbench prefs add '%e time' or '%etime%' in dopus5 to add it to the titlebar.

Well, putting it in user-startup kept the machine from booting to workbench, being that it was stuck in the loop. Is there a better place to run the script, or a better way of writing the script?
Thank you,

For example:
Run <>nil: s:scripts/time-script Last edited by Severin on 28-Oct-2015 at 10:58 AM. Last edited by Severin on 28-Oct-2015 at 10:55 AM.

Oopsy! Silly me. Lapse of AmigaDOS memory.
Thank you for the help.
EDIT: I just found the following on OS4depot.net. I'm not sure how I missed it.
Sets up time as envvar Last edited by PhantomInterrogative on 30-Oct-2015 at 01:53 PM.

No problems. I should have explained better but I was just of to bed...
You could also use:
lab loop time >env:time wait 1 skip loop back
but that's not the 'correct' way to set and envvar.
You could also easily create an arexx or python script instead of dos, but dos is the easiest.
eg.
/* arexx time to envvar */ address command do while 1 > 0 setenv 'time 'date()' 'time() wait '1' end
#!C:Python import os, time While 1 > 0: os.system('Setenv time '+time.ctime()) time.sleep(1)
Both untested btw.
Edit. found a better way, replaced time.asctime(time.localtime(time.time()))) with time.ctime()
Edit: If you want a more accurate clock use the python script and set time.sleep() to 0.2 for 5 times a second upsdates, 0.1 for ten times etc. Last edited by Severin on 28-Oct-2015 at 05:48 PM. I will get around to watching all these vodeos from this year I promise! Watched some of Steven's video... very long.. I even heard him mention Jack. Which has prompted me to revisit the source code and bring a new round of updates. _________________
