| The A2k was never a favourite of mine, but I have a couple lying around. So I started the process of collecting bits and pieces to get one up and running. I have two mainboards, both revision 6. But one of them has this card soldered in place solder side up, while the other one has two IC's (and silkscreen for two additional IC's).
So just curious whats this is all about, since it's the same revision.

It seems to be the Tokuda Tower. This tower allows the use of Static Column RAM whereas without this tower only Fast Page Mode RAM can be used. Don't ask for details, don't have them. Just found the board on Amigawiki. Article in German: www.amigawiki.de.
By the way, while Commodore had several main revisions of the mainboards, there were sub-revisions as well. Last edited by Amiga_3k on 16-Nov-2015 at 05:59 AM.

Thank you for this.
Found some interresting stuff on Static Column ram vs Page Mode ram on google books. In short the only difference in the two ram types are that the Static column is a bit more intelligent regarding addressing and might be slightly faster, consumes a little less power and it keeps it's information without beeing "refreshed" at regular intervals.
But if it makes any difference in the A2k I don't know, might just be that this chips was a good idea due to logistics etc.
But interresting to see this small HW differences. _________________ Welcome to the game |
