NetSurf 3.6 Dev released

Main focus was on speed up bitmap rendering.

    * optimised dithering a bit (thanks matthey)
    * optimised little to big endian conversion
    * replaced buggy libiconv which disabled css on some sites (eg.68kforever)
    * added low dithering quality option
    * fixed scale option bug
    * fixed favourite modifiy bug
    * youtube can be played as mp3 with preffered mp3 player in Prefs
    * updated libsdl to 1.2.15 with optimised parts from sdl 2.0.4
    * changed - download and play mp3 instead of stream
    * reduced binary size by 300kB

Please test and post if loading is faster, thanks!

http://ami-soft.blogspot.com/

This is unofficial SDL fork which unlike Chris_y's port works best under emulation.
But don't hestitate to run it on real hardware and let me know how it works, thanks!

Users who downloaded before 3.07.2016, please do it again, as wrong file was linked!

DNADNL has made automated script to compile Netsurf.

Cross-compilation Windows using Cygwin. Reason of it is to make easier to contribute code / bug fixes for Netsurf.

It downloads Netsurf sources and compiles them to Amiga OS3.5/9

https://github.com/DNADNL/NetScript

This Project is based official source tree.

No wonder :D There is no way to use 68k amiga for general web browsing ever again.

I would be happy just possibility browse amiga sites and ocasinoaly download some files, without need a another Computer.

Currently I have no other choice than using my A4k with CSPPC for General web browsing.

And I have to use IBrowse (or AWeb), as up to now I couldn't get NetSurf working, as you know.

By that I can assure you that IBrowse works flawlessly with all the Amiga sites I visit frequently (amigans.net, amigaworld.net, Amiga.org, Amiga-News.de, Aminet).

It just refuses to load "https"-pages.
My hope is that NetSurf can do this - so I do all I can to get it running.

On CSS-pages the layout sometimes looks really strange, but works (e.g. DB Travel Service or Google).

That's why I use Xabier Payet's "Snapshoter" to reduce the file size of hires photos before I uplpad them to the website I maintain.
It reduces the file size of e.g. a photo with 1.633 kB to 354 kB and so allows for faster loading.

@Dandy

Did you test it without render library? Render library is needed for images, but it is only component wich requires FPU. Without it all images are carbage, but that test would tell if you have problem with 68060 library or possible setpatch.

Some people got crash similar to you, when they tested Netsurf without FPU.

No, I tried it WITH render library.

But I think you misunderstood me.
My sentence "On CSS-pages the layout sometimes looks really strange, but works (e.g. DB Travel Service or Google)." was of course related to IBrowse, as I still have to get Netsurf to start at all on my system.

So I don't think NetSurf not starting is related to an FPU problem.

does anyone know where the prefs file is for Netsurf AGA? for some reason the Netsurf screen is bigger than my WB screen mode and I only see a 1.4 of the page...I don't have mode pro installed so I guess it's just the Indivision AGA playing tricks with the Netsurf AGA screen ??

@klx300r

Just open prefrences and choose preferred screen mode. With AGA is best to use own screen, that way pictures looks better.

Do you have lattest beta? It is much faster with https sites.

Is a plain text file (at least here on my AmigaOS4.1FE), but first do a backup of such file.

well i changed the height/ with settings but still can only see a 1/4 of the screen?? I think this is related to the Indivision AGA screen mode settings??

Try my version: http://cy2.uk/netsurfos3 (which is actually what this thread was about before it got hijacked).

It's not in a different location under 68k - it's in a different location on the Framebuffer frontend.

@klx300r

It's on Aminet http://aminet.net/package/dev/misc/guigfxlib
You'll need render.library too. http://aminet.net/package/dev/misc/renderlib31

There are a few different versions but those should be the best for you.
Let me know how you get on.

@Chris_Y

..go figure

thanks will try out tonight

ok copied over 060 lib for guigfx and render lib and now don;t get error but get some crazy colours and weird fonts (seen attached pic)

https://app.box.com/s/ps5htzjlfdp9v7neydigxtx50ya0iqrc

this on:
Amiga 4000, Cyberstorm MKIII-060@50-128MB, Indivision AGA MK2, X-Surf-100, AmigaOS3.9 & Boing Bags 1 & 2, Thors MUI libs

Update:

fonts cleaned up by using HigGfx screen mode but images and colours still way off
